ORWEN: That's right! There are ways of complimenting something or someone, without stooping to making unfavorable comparisons between the two. Both parks have their own special qualities. No need to insult one while trying to defend the other one.

And There is so much bad talk about Disney World, that it seems like sometimes people forget why we gather here. Because we all love Disney.

The magic is often ruined because of this. But that doesn't mean we can't still have some good times. It's up to every duckling here to keep as much of the magic alive as possible.

COMPLETELY unfair - yeah, I love Disneyland and am very happy that I've gotten to visit twice this year, but, honestly, 9 times out of 10, I'm going to choose a trip to WDW over a trip to DL just because there is SO much more to do at WDW.

Oh, yeah, and the comparisons between PotC & HM don't yhold water with me. The DL versions are much superior.

Oh, and I'd been to WDW twice before ever setting foot in Disneyland. WDW is my "home resort" as I've held an AP there since 2003, but have only had a DL AP since this January. And, comparing apples to apples - i.e., Walt's MK to the WDW MK - Walt's wins hands-down. Yeah,w e have the CoP & WEDWay/TTA in Florida, but at DL, you have SO much more. And better CMs, as well as a cleaner park.

To me its kinda like choosing chocolate ice cream over strawberry.... sometime I like chocolate... sometime strawberry.

While Greg's essay was interesting and brought up a few points I think he nailed (like the journey across or around the Seven Seas Lagoon before the polution-spewing buses began to stop right in front or the superior Tomorrowland), overall I just don't see how the MK compares with DL and I'm a Floridian.

My biggest question though would be when did Greg last visit? How many times has he been to the MK? And when were they? Because as a WDW lifer, I know how much has been lost at the MK due to cost-cutting mixed with inept management at the highest levels. So, after spending a few glorious days at DL in July, I was reminded of a bit of what I used to feel at WDW.

I'm not saying Greg is right or wrong. He just stated an opinion. I just did the same.

But I do feel largely that the criticism the MK receives online is well-deserved.

I have a lot of Disney World experience, though it's definitely tapered off over the past decade. As a kid, we went on annual trips maybe sixteen years in a row (1972-1988). Since 1990, I've only been perhaps four times.

I have heard a lot of grousing over the past couple years concerning upkeep and cleanliness at Disney World. I don't have any personal experience to back that up; it could very well be true. I didn't really touch on the upkeep issues because those things wax and wane over the years. Disneyland has been ripped on this issue more than any of the parks over the past ten years and it's only in the past nine months that fans have felt satisfied with the maintenance level. If Disneyland's maintenance is better now, it's very possible the situation might be reversed in a decade. Because it's a transient issue (though not an unimportant one)--and because I don't go often enough to really know--I left it out of my comparison.

Comparing park-to-park, I'd likely pick Disneyland as superior primarily because it has so many more attractions. (At Disney World, investment that would have otherwise gone into the Magic Kingdom has been put into the newer parks. That same lack of investment is a more recent phenomenon at Disneyland: over the past seven or eight years, most of the investment has gone into California Adventure and the "resort" infrastructure. But in those intervening years, Disneyland certainly built up a larger suite of attractions than the Magic Kingdom.) As I tried to illustrate in the article, I don't give a lot of points to Disneyland for "nostalgia" or being "Walt's park," because I personally feel a lot more nostalgia when I visit Disney World; it's simply what you're used to. My point with the article is to make the case that Disney World's Magic Kingdom isn't just a poor man's Disneyland, which is the reputation I feel it gets painted with on the net far too often. It features many things Disneyland lacks, and in fact is--I think--superior in many respects.
