There was also one that was suppose to be a people mover type attraction above toon town. It sounded similar to the people mover that Star Wars Land was suppose to get but got axed because Florida was too cheap to build it in the shared plans of the land.

Assuming the park followed a similar trajectory, it would currently have 7 operating rides/simulators instead of 5, and an additional "land" to explore and soak up the crowds. While 2 rides shouldn't be a huge deal, that park's roster is so feeble that it would make a huge difference, especially since they would both be accessible to wide audiences (unlike Star Tours, TOT, and RNRC). I imagine it would have added about 60-90 minutes to the average group's itinerary in the park. Additionally, it was never clear to me if the park was ever supposed to get a copy of Roger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin from DL, but that would have further added to the roster

If those had been added in the park's early years, I think it would have done a lot to combat the notion of it being a half-day park. Then again, if that were the case, who knows if the park would have followed a similar path, adding and removing the attractions that got us where we are today. TOT and Sunset Blvd were a major expansion, but I have no idea if that would have been on the table if the Roger Rabbit area and David Copperfield's Magic Underground were actually built

Ah, I was thinking you were talking about DL, not DHS. Makes perfect sense now....

Whenever you get the chance, go back to DCA. Take all the photos of the Tower you can on the inside and ride it at least twice. During the day and during the night.

If they were to decide to keep it, which is a forlorn hope at this point, they should definitely switch between day mode and night mode all the time. Makes everything even more scary having all the lights off, and just sitting up there for several seconds, only hearing your own voices, before you drop................................

Isn't the overlay supposed to open in May? I'd have thought they'd have had the exterior done by now. But maybe they've been working more on the internal changes.

I think that the exterior was slowed down because of all the rain that we have been having this year. Even with that they should be able to meet the May deadline.

Unfortunately, it looks exactly like the concept art they showed us. I was hoping that there would be some differences...something, anything, to make it look better

I'm also curious about the height. We've always been told that the tower was 199' tall to avoid FAA light requirements. The new pipes and dome structure appear to be 10-15' taller than the previous top height, so I wonder if they'll be installing a flashing beacon on top

It's clearly not finished with all that scaffolding still on it. It also doesn't look as "filled in" (on the side especially) as the artwork in post #98. If it ended up looking more like that, it wouldn't bother me so much. Though I still don't understand how you "escape" from something by remaining inside a vertical shaft.

You're right about the added height, though. If they don't install a beacon, I guess it means they got a special dispensation somehow?

It's still 199'. It goes above the building higher than the old dome, but that part of the roof will be lower from the looks of the concept art. It's like it's some of the dome's support structure that is being retained.

The original tower wasn't exactly beautiful either.

I don't think many people claimed that the old tower was a beautiful building, but it was clear what it was supposed to be. I'm still not sure what the new one is supposed to represent...a power plant? a museum? a decrepit old hotel? It seems like the designers don't even really know what they're going for. Heck, they didn't even smooth out the edges around the openings around the elevators where lightning supposedly blew off chunks of the original structure, even though that has no relation to the new design and would be a very cheap change

While it wasn't "pretty", it was bland colors that were easy to overlook and could plausibly blend with nearly any land in the park. Everything I've seen of the new design is bright and garish, making it much harder to ignore while it looms on the horizon
