That's freaking ridiculous. Just stop chewing gum onstage, already! I can't imagine that things have changed now. Absolutely no chewing gum, eating or drinking are to be allowed on stage bu costumed Cast Members. Cast Members who wear their own clothes are supposed to remove their nametags before purchasing or consuming food onstage. The ONLY exception to this is when the temperature has reached above 90 degrees and ONLY certain CM's such as Parking Lot/Transportation CM's are allowed to have water that has been delivered to them. They are allowed to drink it and get rid of the cups. There are probably other roles where the CM's are allowed to have water onstage during Code 90 weather. Costumes have specific alterations that can be made in that case, also. Sleeves may be rolled up, top buttons unbuttoned, etc. These costume guidelines are specific to costume and are not across the board. Personally I see plenty of costumed and non-costumed but nametagged CM's eating or drinking onstage. It drives me nuts. I do have my Disney Look book and my CM manual from when I hired in but I am in the process of locating it in my garage since I recently moved to San Antonio. Suffice it to say, the gum chewing policy is not only in my manual but it's also clearly stated in Disney University orientation. The Resort Leaders with whom I am still acquainted confirm that they talk about this in orientation. So anyone who wonders if this is covered, or against policy...be it known...it is against policy and it's not a grey area. Now the enforcement of it...that, apparently, is as inconsistent as it gets.

It's hot and can be unsafe to the CM's if they don't drink enough. That said, they should drink it when not speaking with a Guest and they should conceal it (if possible) when they're not actually drinking.

There are middle income places kicking up the quality and being rewarded for it. The Marriott chain comes to mind. The polish of a $100/night Courtyard is vastly surperior to the $69-$79 Comfort/ Quality Inns. I think there are a lot of us who are fed up with "casual" service. Since I haven't been to WDW since '06 I can't say, but it would follow what I'm seeing. Will it be enough? who knows. but it will be different than before. We went to a relitively new restaurant here run by some quasi-famous chef. I felt so sorry for the waiter. He was trying really hard to do it right. And to waiter properly at a "gourmet" restaurant is an established art. Well it was obvious he had not been trained on even the basics, but he tried really hard, and gave fantastic service for not knowing what side to serve from or how to pour wine. We gave him a good tip that included suggesting that he move over to this other restaurant that has fantastic service. There this guy will shine. I'm not really much of an optimist, just callin' as I see it. And I'm definely not settling for mediocre at premiem prices anymore. Thats why we haven't been to WDW since '06, and they really are going to have to build something I have to see before I go back. But sorry to say, the only Otown project announced so far that will get me down there is WWoHP. And thats summer '10. I am very interested to see DCA after the extreme makeover. So as of right now it looks like my next Disney trip will be for that around summer '11-12. I'm thinking The Keys summer '08. NYC summer '09.
