Some have said they choose not to have them. But I haven't seen anyone saying no one should. Some are saying we shouldn't all go around carrying them with us wherever we go, but that's not the same thing.

I have been in the uncomfortable situation of being threatened by a gunman.

Fortunately, the situation was resolved without violence. For this particular incident I think the presence of additional weapons might have served to escalate the violence.

Every situation is different. My bottom line is that guns aren't all that useful unless the person with the weapon has been trained to use it properly and also trained in the circumstances when it appropriate to employ deadly force. Otherwise, guns just result in needless death and destruction.

40 states now allow their citizens to obtain conceal-carry permits for handguns. Some people say that's dangerous, while others say it allows them to protect themselves.

20/20 is going to be doing a show on people who have defended themselves with their personal gun.

I hope that this will be good stuff to show that it isn't just BAD that happens from gun ownership.

But you know 20/20... you just never know with that show.

Some people here have been told that they should not be allowed to have a gun.

If the question doesn't pertain to you, don't answer. But I am sure that there are a few here that think just that, a complete ban would be a good thing.

Do you think that it would have happened if there were a nationwide ban on private ownership of guns?

Aren't you in the military? <---- not that that matters at all, just seems like I caught that in another thread or something.

    Yes, I'm probably unique but I've been in several situations I hope to never experience again;

    1. Held at gunpoint by the police twice:
    a. for being in the wrong type of car, with people wearing the wrong type of clothing for that particular neighborhood. We were doing nothing wrong but picking up a friend.
    b. mistaken car identity late at night, they approached my car with guns pointed.

    2. While babysitting for a neighbor, they came home feeling a bit to good, got into an argument and the dad drew his gun. Waving it around at all of us in the family room. I ran home crying. Never babysat there again.

    3. Family function, an unwelcome guest came to the house and pulled a gun outside the house. Shot it into the air a few times, cops came.

    4. Had gun pointed at my face by a very drugged person who I knew. I was an innocent bystander.

I don't want guns in my house, I don't want to be near people with guns on them, nor do I want to be in someone elses house who has a gun.

    I'm kinda done with guns.

Maybe no one answers because no one has argued against guns in the home.

Let's just all pray we never run across a doctor with a gun. Driving a car.
