Not me--as long as you're in costume, c'mon. Best treats to the original costumes, most unimpressive stuff to the storebought crowd.

One year, all the neighbors called ahead, so by the time we came down the other side of the street they were all ready for us! It also seemed like people were being extra nice to us with candy, since we weren't even there for us (officially...we all knew we would get candy too!).

Halloween is supposed to be a holiday for young people, not senior citizens who suck on hard candies all day.

We always used to go trick or treating as teenagers. We loved dressing up and would use the night as a good excuse to do so. Instead of candy we would collect food for our local food bank. It was a lot of fun and we would usually get a really good response from the community.

It just has to be there because life just wouldn't quite be the same in the new era caused by its passing.

Would Christmas be the same without fruitcake? (Of course it would -- perhaps even better in my opinion) Yet why do so many thousands of pounds of the stuff get made every year when it has such a stigma attached to it? Year after year it's universally recognized as the worst gift that can be given (yes, even below not giving a gift at all!), but that doesn't seem to stop enough people from doing it anyway.

Who is this nameless group that buys fruitcake and eats disgusting candy? What can be done to cure this insanity?

I'm a chocolate lover so anything like smarties, laffy taffy etc. I can pass on but I did like them as a kid. I'd use the smarties for medicine when I played hospital with my dolls. Knock off any nasty thoughts, I tried to choose my words wisely :)

Our left over candy goes to our daughters
school (she's a teacher) I'll have to ask her what the kids think of the candy that I think is gross. I won't give them the empty wrapper :)
