Only real benefit to changing jobs! Happy belated birthday too - hope to catch up with you again soon if I ever make it back to London!

Well, whatever it is you know I wish you the best and hope this next year is everything you hope for and more. What the heck is "gardening leave" though? <-- goes to catch up on LP to see what Dave's talking about and maybe google "gardening leave".

Chickie D - glad to see you here. In community you will see a few posts about my upcoming career changes. As for gardening leave, it is a very British thing, regarding Senior Management and Executive roles. Here in the UK, it is not uncommon to have to work 3 months post resignation. Or, if a company worries about a staff member's integrity, then it is common to put them on gardening leave - the time between quiting and the contract ending, where you are not allowed to work for your new employer, and you also are not allowed to talk to coleagues and customers. Thankfully, or regretably, dependent how you look at it. I worked my socks off to be able to do a quick handover and the company trusts me, so rather than have gardening leave, I negotiated a quick cessation of my contract, freeing me up to start work sooner. Although I wanted to paint the house and play with the kids, this seems to work out for the best.

Thanks for the quick response on the explanation, Dave! (I still have to find the community thread about your job stuff. Something tells me it's gonna take a while for me to catch up!) So, do I understand this right? Gardening leave is a period of time where you get paid by your former employer to stay home from your new job and garden so long as you don't talk shop to your contacts/friends from that job? SWEET! Sign me up for that! LOL So, if I may be so bold as to ask, did you end up getting a nice birthday day with the fam this weekend?

My 1st proper board position. As for weekend and family, hmmm. Interesting one. Saturday was spent sorting out IT issues and such at home. My in-laws popped over (thank you for Scrubs series 1,2 and 3 - sweet). And then we had a mexican feast. Today has been up in the air, going through contracts and such, preparing and packing for our vacation next Saturday, and my parents should be over soonish (they fly out to San Francisco tomorrow - my mom's first trip home in 21 years!!!). So hectic.
