To YOU maybe. But obviously plenty of others feel that it is completely justified.

I think I'd be willing to pay $200-$300 per night to stay AWAY from Branson, MO!

My whole peeve here is seeing people so cheerfully submitting to that greed, and therefore perpetuating it.
You guys should be paying less than half the price for those hotel rooms.
If more of you felt like me, that would be the case.

It troubles me to see otherwise bright people spending little Timmy's college money so unnecessarily.

Oh my GOD!! I've never seen the Baldknobbers and never will!

The Landing and Big Cedar are a totally different side of Branson.

If the prices were that low, none of us would ever get to stay because the rooms would sell out a second after the bookings become available.

    Oh, brother.

Don't worry yourself unnecessarily about my kid's education. I paid 100% of Rachel's c (ollege expense... tuition, fees, books, dorm and dining plus $300 per month in spending money so she wouldn't need a part time job. I wanted her to graduate in FOUR years. I also didn't want either one of us taking out student loans... I DESPISE them!

(Unfortunately my wife owes more in student loans than I care to think about.)

So you would rather pay double for the chance of getting one of those coveted rooms?

We understand your point of view, we just don't agree with it. What part of that don't you get??

Thank you! I'm not even sure if I will ever stay there again, but I sure enjoyed it and I have stayed at a lot of hotels in Anaheim.

The parks are just as overpriced as the hotels.

Why are you singling out hotel rates while ignoring how expensive everything else is at Disney's resorts? Do you have free admission to the parks? Do you sneak food in as well? Do you shoplift on Main Street and World Showcase? Please tell us your secret for navigating around Disney's exorbitant prices? If these things are affordable for you that's great. Consider for a moment that there are millions of people who might consider you foolish for cheerfully submitting to that greed and therefore perpetuating it.

Nothing about visiting a Disney resort is necessary, so this argument, like everything else you've said, is both judgmental and silly.

Yes... I can get a season pass to Silver Dollar City, an extremely nice regional theme park, for less than the cost of a one day pass to Disneyland. If you don't think it's worth it, you don't go. Simple as that.

For me, it's easy to single out hotels because there are so many comparable experiences elsewhere. It's tough to replicate the same quality of theme park, convenience of dining, or sentimentality of souvenirs, but there are plenty of hotels in the same area that offer a more-or-less parallel experience. Given that most people spend relatively little time of the vacation awake in their hotel rooms (3-4 hours per day at most), it also seems like a pretty logical place to cut costs, without having a huge impact on the quality of your vacation.

For me, if the convenience and cost were equal between a Disney Moderate and a Hilton-style hotel, I'm not sure which I would choose. As it stands, the Disney hotels in both WDW and DL are more convnient (though I think WDW has an edge with the 'free' airport transporation), but the costs are much higher, which leads to this discussion.

Their hotels, however, have a wide range of prices, which seems to encourage people to look at outside prices as well

I still find the admission prices for the amount of time I spend in the parks to be a good. Sadly being from Canada the food prices at Disneyland especially the sit down locations are reasonably priced to me. Anyways, it would be nice if the hotels charged less, but they don't. I don't think it's worth it, but It really isn't my business if people are willing to pay for it and are happy doing so.

Depends on how you spend your time on your vacation. Personally, I spend about as many waking hours in the hotel as I do in the parks.
