Has the tea party effectively taken over the GOP?

The turn of events with the Tea Party's upset within the ranks of the GOP is really something, isn't it? To say that some of the Tea Party candidates seem not quite ready for prime time is an understatement, and yet it looks like they'll be representing some of us in Congress come November. And I thought Sarah Palin was scary.

Not necessarily. I hear people saying now that the independents, moderates, and democrats might just be so scared by what these people are saying that they vote the other way on November 2nd. I hope that's the case, but at the very least, it's made the Republican ticket much harder to swallow for mainstream America, I think. I think that the Tea Party is much louder than they are large. Sure, they got their candidates elected, but the voter turnout was kind of low, so compared to the 2008 election cycle where there was much higher turnout, I don't know exactly how much sway the Tea Party has over the entire country. I guess we'll have to wait and see. It's interesting seeing the conservative mantle being wrestled away from the GOP though...

I get scared by a lot of people who represent us.

Remember the gentleman who thought Guam would capsize because there were too many people.

You also have to consider who votes in primary elections. If you live in a state with closed primaries you tend to only get the extremes of the party voting. If you are registered as an Independent in your state you usually cannot vote in the primaries so you mostly get the die-hards doing so. That is how you end up with candidates like Sharon Angle and Christine O'Donnell and Joe Miller. If nothing else, this election will be very interesting. I do hope that the moderates show up so these people do not get elected but again, it is mostly the hard liners that show up to vote in the mid-terms.
