Can't see any of that during the day when my eyes are used to the sunlight outside.

In fact, it's in better than HD since it's not done with any sort of film-based projection system at all. I think you are suggesting that you might achieve more fluid and realistic movements with CGI-developed animations than the more limited movements of the mechanical animatronic figures. That is not an issue of "HD" vs. "non-HD," but an issue of how the characters themselves are rendered. I think keeping the animatronics in the ballroom maintains a consistent feel among all of the characters throughout the attraction -- whether they are images projected by the Pepper's ghost technique or figures that appear anywhere else in the attraction.

Something about that brings the creep factor down, somehow. It's hard to explain, and just a visceral response. I'd be fine with quick CGI projections (like the ghost escaping the coffin) that were quick and more of a background thing. That could be an enhancement. But I think the ballroom scene would work better staying largely as it is.
