For any other kind of story, that's not such a bad thing. But when you're dealing with established fairy tales that make references to too many modern issues, it brings them so far down to Earth that they lose that 'other world' quality that makes a Snow White or a Sleeping Beauty so special.

ORWEN: I didn't even like it when Ariel called her father 'Daddy'. It didn't fit the right time period it was supposed to represent. Belle was better. She at least called her father "Papa". But it's easier to over-look the one issue with Ariel since most of the rest of her movie fit in with the times it was trying to portray.

ORDDU: And please understand that we're not against ALL changes that have to be made in order to bring a fairytale to the wide screen. Obviously some things don't translate from book to movie very well.

ORWEN: I'm glad that The Little Mermaid had a happy ending instead of a sad one, like in the original story. But that was a positive change that allowed the audience to leave the theatres with a happier frame of mind. At least the original plot stayed the same. With Rapunzel, they're making so many changes that it's as if it's not even the same character from the original story anymore. She's become nothing but a Tom boy with long hair who enjoys showing off what she can do with it.

ORRDU: In any case, ducklings, we're just expressing our personal opinions, preferences, etc., here. Some of you may actually LIKE this new version of RAPUNZEL. Your tastes may be very different from ours and we don't wish to offend anyone just because we look at the subject matter differently.
