But it wasn't this Mecca of knowledge people often make it out to be. It was, and remains to this day, a great park, but it has never had the effect on the industry that Dland has.

The original DL had nothing more than amusement parks and possibly Tivoli Gardens as an example to follow. Epcot, as it was implemented, had many world's fairs and Expos that came before it, not to mention DL and MK. My list of most daring and unique concepts is... 1. Disneyland 2(tie). Animal Kingdom (for putting live animals together with a theme park) 2(tie). Epcot (worlds fair meets theme park) 4. DisneySea (just so many new and unique ideas for a Disney theme park)

The fact that its core values were edutainment and way of presenting the story through that, puts it's content above Disneyland's. But the impact of it? No, that's reserved for DL. The same can be said for the scope.

The Birnbaum book used to brag about how they kept up with painting everything in the parks often, and they stuck to the themeing of the attraction. You never saw bulbs out on the Main Street buildings. In 2000 the Orlando Sentinel had an article about how bad the maintenance was at WDW. They show pictures of bulbs being out before the parade on Main Street an how bad the buildings looked. I long for the good old days.

The level of service we receive is far less than 10 years ago and less than 10 years before that - on average. Whether it be at a gas station, restaurant, zoo- school, place of work -- take your pick.

If you ever get a chance to go to a gas station in Japan, you will be reminded of days gone by. The attendant comes out of the gas station in a clean neat uniform. Pumps your gas and cleans your windshield. No wonder TDR service is so much better than the US parks.
