Of particular interest would be how popular culture has affected the language patterns and vocabulary of the local inhabitants. As the American culture continues to dilute into the psyche of the Eastern Euroasian countries one could argue that the use of American-English will also begin to be used on a wider scale, particularly in the young. Phrases such as “Cowabunga Dude!†and “I’m lovin’ it!†are surely destined to be part of most languages in forty years time. Of course, it could be argued with some validity that if a particular country wanted to protect their cultural heritage they could look to countries like France for guidance. France has strict guidelines on how much foreign media is played and they actively pursue the continuation of the French way of life. However, even France has had its fair share American imports and in spite of itself it enjoys the profits of having the number one tourist attraction in Europe less than 30 kilometres from it’s capital city. A tourist attraction that it has been argued makes it’s money from distorting popular European culture into an Americanised form. The fact that elevator is a more aspirational word than lift should not be overlooked. As the people of Eastern Euroasia strive to bring their standard of living into line with the West of Europe subconsciously the use of elevator could become more popular to reflect the mood of the area. There is a strong case, therefore, to suggest that the peoples of the area would choose elevator over lift. In conclusion, based on my research into the matter I would I have to answer that I don’t know!!!
