Unless they adapt easily to new names, after all is said and done I'd be inclined to leave them alone, no matter how bad the names are.

Sheila and Rusty are the names that our dogs came with and those are the names we call them. We planned to rename Sheila, but what can I say -- she's a Sheila! It just fits her. She came from a VERY bad situation though... she still has nightmares after being with us almost two years. So sometimes, I think maybe it would have been smart to give her a new name with her new life... just so she could leave "Sheila" and the mean people in her past... Then there's Rusty. He's deaf. Like all deaf dogs, he thinks his name is the sign for "Look" because that's what we do to get his attention. In the end, you'll probably give your dogs nicknames anyway, so the official call name may or may not be important. Sheila's nicknames include: Bo Dog, Sweet Stuffins, Princess and many others. She comes to all of them -- especially if you're holding a treat. Rusty's nicknames include: Rufus, Rucifee, Rooster, Roo and many others. We get his attention with physical actions. Stomping on the ground, waving him over, the sign for Look, etc.
