This was done by a teenage kid who 'fessed up the same day this all broke.

It really is, sadly, an animating force for many. And the going out of their way is actually the tip-off. <I feel that those showing support for the chicken house don't care much about your(my or anyone's) sexuality.> You "feel?" Well, that settles it, then. Except you're wrong. I happened to be down south on Aug. 1. The local news had a piece about the "Appreciation Day." Some of the interviewees made it abundantly clear they were there because they were anti-gay. And all you have to do is read some of the comments sections on the news pieces about this. Then tell me those people don't care about anyone's sexuality or that that sort of bigotry is a thing of the past. Sure, some of the people there might have been there because they misunderstood this as a "free speech" thing. Some might have been there thinking they were somehow supporting "traditional marriage," and convinced themselves they weren't anti-anybody (as many of those opposed to interracial marriage convinced themselves). But you paint with too broad a brush. If only half of those there decided to show up because of anti-gay feelings, that's still millions of people. <But go ahead and make it about you if you like.> Um, yeah. I'm the only person in the world who is affected by the groups CFA lavishes millions on. Tell it to the Ugandans.

We care that he donates millions of dollars to hate groups. I don't care what the CEO of Burger King thinks politically either. But if I found out he was donating millions to the Klan, I wouldn't patronize Burger King, and I'd hope you wouldn't either.

So you are claiming that you are unsure that a portion who have queued up are there for other than anti homosexual agandas? Your lack of honesty is showing again. Why is it so difficult for you to speak candidily? If you start posting in a more honest, frank fashion you will garner not only more respect but more credibility as well. Anyway, I'm not holding my breath for you to do the right thing as this has been one of your more pronounced posting trademarks over the last few years. Back on topic: It's refreshing to see that so many are showing support for basic freedoms.

Originally Posted By Dabob2 ///Sure, some of the people there might have been there because they misunderstood this as a "free speech" thing./// <You're at it again I see. might?!?!?!?> Yes, might. A word that has more than one meaning. As in "Some people's favorite DL ride might be Space Mountain. For some, it might be the Haunted Mansion. For some, it might be Splash Mountain." And of course, we know for a fact that MANY people choose each of those as a favorite ride. Do you see the usage I was using now? One might hope so. <So you are claiming that you are unsure that a portion who have queued up are there for other than anti homosexual agandas?> Nope. See above. <Your lack of honesty is showing again.> Right back at you, although I'm willing to go with obtuseness. <Why is it so difficult for you to speak candidily? Plus, you sidestep my point, not surprisingly. If only half of the people there were there for anti-gay reasons (and since I said this in the last post, one might think that would have been the tip-off as to my meaning of "might," i.e. half of them might indeed have been there for other reasons), that's still millions of people choosing to show up to count themselves in the anti-gay throngs. <Back on topic: It's refreshing to see that so many are showing support for basic freedoms.> Except this has nothing to do with basic freedoms. No doubt some people there convinced themselves of that, but in reality that was not the case. Cathy's freedoms were never curtailed. He said what he said and no government agent knocked on his door and took him away. And that's what the first amendment is: protection against the government for you speech, not the consequences of saying whatever you like to whomever you like. If I march into my boss's office and tell him off, adding in a few choice words about his mother, I can't go crying "first amendment!" if he fires me. Cathy is free to say what he wants, and free to donate his money the way he wants. And the rest of us are free to react to that. Ironically, you don't seem to like the "basic freedom" part of the second half of that.

Jesus said that to His followers because of his stances on loving your enemies, selling your possessions to feed the poor, how it was easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter Heaven... all those radical ideas that were dangerous to the powers that be - then and now. He wasn't saying they'd be hated because they were holding to His stance that gay people shouldn't get married... He uttered not one word we know of on gay people at all.

I fully support Mr. Cathy's right to free speech, and his right to donate to any cause, group, or organization he wants. But I will exercise my right to not give him any more money in which he can use to try and take away my rights as a gay man. The organizations he is financially supporting push legislation to restrict the ability of equal rights in the areas of employment, housing, adoption, and even custody of gay people's own children. Barboy, please tell me who has attempted to restrict Mr. Cathy's right to free speech.
