This keeps getting repeated, and I have to jump in here and correct, because NO.

I was still eating at Chick-Fil-A even though I knew about the foundation and the CEO's views and the Focus on the Family Kids Meals, for precisely that reason. There is no sense in boycotting a restaurant just because of what the CEO believes. We'd all go hungry. And I *do* buy the argument that none of organizations they've given money to, as distasteful as some of them are, are in existence solely to prevent gays from getting married. I think that's overstating the situation, and I wish liberals would knock it off.

But I am boycotting now. And here's why:

He did not state his PERSONAL beliefs. He stated that it was the OFFICIAL POLICY OF CHICK-FIL-A that marriage was between a man and a woman. That's what the "guilty as charged" stuff was all about. Here's the original article about the interview:

    >>Some have opposed the company's support of the traditional family. "Well, guilty as charged," said Cathy when asked about the company's position.

"We are very much supportive of the family -- the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.<<

    <a href="http://www.bpnews.net/bpnews.asp?id=38271" target="_blank">http://www.bpnews.net/bpnews.a...id=38271</a>

When asked about the COMPANY'S POSITION. Not Dan Cathy's. THE COMPANY'S.

That's why I'm boycotting. CHICK-FIL-A ITSELF is the one discriminating against gay marriage here.

For the record, I don't think they should be denied restaurant licenses over this, and I don't believe their CEO hates gays.

Now, the people who flooded the restaurants yesterday ... I have a much easier time ascribing some hate to their actions. I wouldn't have gone within a mile of a Chick-Fil-A yesterday, even if I wasn't boycotting them.

    >>More hateful? How? Giving millions of dollars to organizations that hate chicken sandwiches? I didn't realize anyone had done so.<<

    I am SO stealing this.

Just like Hitler. Both believe that the existence of the target of their hatred is enough to act against them. Both are evil.

Jews had to be identified with a Star of David. (Danish Jews, however, did not have to wear the Star) and had to have a J on their passports, etc.

My reaction surprised me. It felt like all those people -- young men in pickup trucks, moms with kids, older couples -- were stepping on my chest. It felt like hidden bigotry had come out to make itself known. It felt like hatred and rejection. It felt like go home, you're not wanted here. My response was visceral. My gut ached, a sob caught in my throat, and my eyes welled up with tears. I couldn't drive away fast enough. And I'm not a person who cries easily, at least not usually, but I cried all the way home. Just those couple of minutes of seeing how many people are anti-gay, anti-me, hurt more than I could have ever expected. ...

That line at Chik-Fil-A touched me like a banner of unwelcome, like a vigilante caravan of people who could hardly wait for the opportunity to openly express their belief that I was an enemy to be conquered -- someone they longed to see be put back in her place as an anamoly, a threat to society, a pervert, a half-person.

    It broke my heart.<<
