It's great, isn't it? Part of it is that they know what they're doing (and in some cases are 3rd and 4th generation pizzerians... is that a word?), and part of it is the really excellent water (seriously) NYC has. Makes the crust so good. Same reason NY bagels really are better than other places. Bagels especially absorb a lot of water, so the better the water, the better the bagel. But it works for pizza dough too.

And I hold that when you cross the river into Brooklyn, the pizza just KNOWS it has to be better still. :)

There are a couple of hole in the wall joints in my nabe where the pizza is a religious experience.

There are more real places with thin crust that is outstanding ( btw Malnati's sells more thin than thick I believe also )

I long for the good old days of real Pizza flavor and smell. None of the chain stores have that. I don't have access to the mom and pop places that probably still use Pizza sauce. I miss it. Even the old Pizzas you made at home were better then todays store bought types.

And another thing - these "kitchen sink" pizzas that are covered with every kind of topping imaginable. They're missing the whole point.

Finally, my neighborhood in SF has a locally revered pizza spot called Goat Hill Pizza. It's pretty good, but too expensive ($25 for a large w/2 toppings). But the really odd thing is that their claim to fame is the sourdough crust. It's "good" but who cares about the crust?

But I agree the sauce is the biggest thing. And homemade right there in the pizzeria (in one Brooklyn joint, you can see them crushing the tomatoes in the morning) - you can't beat that. Add fresh mozz from the Italian deli in the nabe (and fresh sausage or pepperoni from the same if desired) and... perfection.

(Try sausage and pineapple -- it's a better sweet vs. salty blend than suite ham & pineapple.)

The local Godfather's growing up was "okay." It wasn't the best, or the worst. But I'll admit it...if I could get a dessert pizza tomorrow, I would.

And what's worse is that republicans just. don't. care. They expect their politicians to lie to them.

Which is fine, I never considered Cain to be a legitmate threat.

Politico contacted the Cain campaign 10 days before running the story, to give them a heads up. Politico had the info for weeks, waiting for the right moment to release the story. Cain and his campaign knew it was coming.

Cain also claims that he doesn't remember the settlements. Really? How could he forget about this in a short eight years, between this campaign for President, and his previous run for Senator in Georgia? He remembered the women, the settlements, and warned his campaign team about it, in the event it was brought up by the opposition or media.

And where is his wife, the long-time registered Democrat, standing by his side and supporting him through this? We've heard nothing from this woman, only a few tidbits about her from the media. Shouldn't she be standing by her man, helping to defend him against these alleged false accusations?

For me, this is further proof that Cain is not really running for President. He's pulling a Palin, to jack up his popularity for financial gain. But now this sh*t has hit the fan, his sexual exploits will clearly threaten his career as a motivational speaker. This is the main reason he's in damage control mode, to salvage his speaking career. He knew he had zero chance of winning the Presidency from the get-go. He simply wants to cash in on being Flavor of the Month with the GOP base.
