Great FX with decent story, characters, and acting (ok not a "great" story, which is where it hurts a little, but it is certainly decent overall). I certainly give it personal "thumbs up" and would rate it a very positive B+. I certainly liked this better than Star Wars Episodes I or II, so as sequels go, it's definitely above average. I'll even say that it surpasses the original in almost every way (and this isn't a slam to the original at all as I've always liked it, just felt it was a bit "clunky" in sections). Peronally, I hope we get at least a TRON III and finally see some TRON based attractions in the parks (how about retheming Wonders of Life at EPCOT into an ENCOM themed pavilion with a Tron simulator ride to replace Body Wars???)

Unless a film is completely dependent on effects to make it good (**cough** Avatar) then it is probbably a good idea to see in regular format first.

But since they're supposed to be digital entities, why would they need "food"? Only electrical power would be necessary, right??? Also, why did Kevin Flynn appear aged??? Shouldn't he just be a digital form of himself when he got "zapped" into the TRON world??? Just some plot holes that sort of bugged me from watching the movie...

I'm not sure how ISOs figure into that, but I would assume they either need to eat occasionally, or can eat if they want to. I don't think that programs could eat at all, since that is not part of their purpose. This also explains why Kevin Flynn aged, which CLU stayed young the whole time. They're in a digital world, but since there is no real-world copy of them at the time, they are alive in there, so they are real beings (hence the blood during the disc war scene).

But this one required me to leave my brain in the closet the first time I heard the plot way back in the 80's. Seriously, I'm a biologist here - humans in a computer living within an electronic grid? Umm, food and bathrooms were the least of concerns!

Ironically, I got to go to a screening Monday night at the El Capitan where they had a panel discussion before the film, featuring the director, the producer, and two scientists from the Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena. They talked and talked about how they worked together to create a believeable set of rules for the film, but never once brought up the requirements for sustaining users' life. I could tell that they really didn't want to bore the audience with a lot of technical details, but that there really weren't too many to share anyway. One of the cool things I learned is that the laser that zaps Sam into the computer has canisters attached to it, to hold the elements to recreate him when he exits. Since matter cannot be created or destroyed, they had to do something with it while he was in the computer, so he's supposedly stored there.
