I think either something was cut from the film or this was another area where the writers failed to flesh out the mythology. We know Zeus/Castor has a history with Quorra, but we don't know what that history was or why Zeus changed sides. Not to mention, why name him "Zeus" if there isn't something implied there? "Castor" sounds familiar to me, too, but I haven't looked it up to see if there is symbolism implied.

    >>Creepy. Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka creepy.<<

I think Willy Wonka needs to be kind of creepy. He actually doesn't care much for children and sets up these various temptations and tests. Even better that Burton gave him a backstory.

Anyhow, Michael Sheen reminded me of Ziggy Stardust era David Bowie. At least in the case of Bowie, I think he wanted people to be a bit unsettled with his androgynous appearance.

    >>Hope the tangent is allowed, but how did both of you feel about the original Willie Wonka? I wonder if it has to do with what you grew up with or something.<<

I actually never saw the Gene Wilder version when I was a kid. In fact, I had never seen the film until a few months ago, and, even if I had seen it as a kid, it plays on a whole other level for an adult audience. I really like both films, but they are quite different.

    >>But Depp's Willie just freaked me out. I need to see Alice as I'm sure he was a little odd in that as well. But it struck me as a little more Edward Schissor hands rather than Willie.<<

Actually, I think Edward is one of the least eccentric of all the Burton characters Depp has portrayed. Yes, he does have scissors for hands, but he's just a sensitive soul who had no exposure to the "real world." I also know from a doc I once saw, Edward is probably the most autobiographical character, for both Burton and Depp.

I prefer the book (and I have an old enough edition that the Oompa Loompas were a tribe of African pygmies!) to both movies, but I also prefer Wilder's Wonka to Depp's.

I watched my DVD of the original TRON on New Year's Morning (after having watched the omitted "love scene," the "with music cue" verison of the Light Cycles sequence, and the "Wendy's complete close music" version of the end credits, shortly after my previous post.

For what it's worth, his name is "Zuse," not "Zeus."

Castor is the twin brother of Pollux. Both Castor and Pollux were born of the same mother (Leda), but had different fathers. (Don't ask... it's mythology!) Pollux is Zeus' son, but not Castor.

Castor and Pollux were transformed by Zeus into the Gemini constellation, commonly known as The Twins.

Unfortunately for me, I got sick during the film and had to make a mad dash to the ladies room right after Quorra sacrificed herself to the thugs and CLU was about to speak to his troops. Even after skimming through these posts, I really have no idea what happens after this. (I'm still too sick to return to the theater and catch what I missed. Hopefully I'll feel better before Green Hornet moves in next Friday.)

So... I'm asking for some input.

How much of the film did I miss, in terms of minutes?

Is it worth spending more $$$ to see the finale on the big screen? Or should I just wait until it's out on DVD?

Admittedly, I was impressed with the look of TRON in IMAX 3D. The visuals were stunning, although the action at times was confusing, like during the lightcycle battle. I agree that the young Kevin Flynn didn't quite fit in with the non-zombie characters in the flashbacks, but fortunately, those scenes didn't last long.

As for the story... eh. It's a popcorn flick. Terrific eye candy visuals, great soundtrack. But the story? Please. I actually thought the first TRON had a more cohesive story than this one. The whole thing with the ISOs sort of reminds me of the Star Wars backpedaling with midi-chlorians to explain the Force. I wanted a better explanation of where the ISOs came from and what was so special about them, but didn't get it. Just like with the midi-chlorians. Lame plot device.

I have a fairly good idea of how the film ends, so if folks want to spoil it for me, go ahead. I'm just trying to decide if I need to return to the theater and see the ending, if it's that grand and glorious on the big screen and not to be missed. If it's on par with the other action, like the games, then I'm not sure I want to spend the time or money.

    Thanks.

There was quite a bit more (mayber 40 minutes or more) that happened after that part and the finale is fairly exciting, with a major "revelation". Depending how much of a fan of what you saw so far, it might be worth for you to see how it all ends, especially if you want to finish seeing it in 3-D. I'd say "yes" since it will only be available in this format for a short while longer before it heads to DVD and Blu-Ray. But only if you enjoyed what you saw up to that point, otherwise, wait for the home video version to see the rest of the story.
