Well most 11th and 12th graders are about 5'10" or above and shave every day. Heck, I know a 9th grader who's 6'1" and has a beard. Sure, we're kids, but we don't look THAT young. I, for one, tower over all of my teachers, and I don't tend to associate with guys whose voices match my own. No, I prefer those who are at least 15. And what's with all this "no no no, status quo" stuff? People get over that by grade 10. Trust my contemporary experience. =P

Sorry for double posting. Technically all the main roles in High School Musical (the 4 main characters) are all legal adults, except for Vanessa Anne Hudgens who doesn't turn 18 until December.

Nonetheless, the entire atmosphere of the movie was dragged down to make all the conflicts within the plot small enough for kids to understand. It DOES have a PG rating, it's a kid movie, and there's a fine line between a kid and a young adult. There were some pathetic stereotypes thrown into that movie (for instance, cheerleaders aren't at all like they were portrayed). Sure, stereotypes probably exist, but definitely not like that! As a high school student, I was actually insulted by this movie and how immature it portrays teens as. I thought, with all the stereotypes/cliques (and VERY SMALL, numerous cliques, at that) and the intense social structure, it was much too hard to believe. Which is why I absolutely hated the Status Quo song. I also thought the characters were much too immature to belong in high school and to be in at least the 10th grade. And the whole relationship scene was dragged down to a 7th grade level what with all the shyness and awkwardness.

Also, I had no idea that chemistry clubs existed, and I highly doubt that many high school graduates know how to draw organic compounds like the one I spotted Gabriella doing, haha.

Anyway, if I want to watch a high school musical, I think I'll stick with Grease.

Yes the entire plot is overly simplistic, and the stereotypes are broadly drawn. That is why it is popular with all the 10, & 11 year old girls I know, including my dd.

I also prefer Grease for a High School musical.

I loved the movies "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" or "Porkys" too, which may or may not resemble high schools of today (or even the late 70s early 80s when they were made). But, I don't think those would play too well at a Disney park. Even certain scenes in "Grease" would be uncomfortable to be watched together in the same room with parents and kids. Even my 9 year old still doesn't like to see kissing scenes (still thinks it's gross) - I'm glad that HSM didn't have any.

Nothing wrong with the " Brady Bunch" mentality.

Yes, HSM has a lot of shortcomings, but it also has a lot going for it which is why it would be perfect for DCA.

So I get that a lot of preteens and kids enjoy HSM and it's a decent family film. And I've seen lots of family films -- heck, why would I be on a Disney website if I hadn't seen a plethora of Disney films and become incredibly obsessed with them? I love family films, just not this one!
