I can see it all now..... Here, ST you take this pile of crap and LS, you go and take that pile of crap. Klucky, you just sit there and make egg crate furniture and wooden spool jewelry and when your done you pick a pile of crap to take too.

If a relative died and I ended up with something there was NO way I could part with it (OK, I'm still guilty there). I still have my grandma's sewing box, wooden spools and all. My late husband was a game collector and he had hundreds of board games and role playing games and any kind of game you can think of. After we lost him I took all but those I might play or had some sort of sentimental attachment and took them to the annual poker party he used to go to and told everybody to take as many as they wanted. Still have some of his stuff, but I found slowly going through it and getting it out over the years has really reduced the number of boxes I have. I found the show Clean Sweep also helped me purge a bunch of stuff. Really motivating.

You know I've been thinking about the counting steps and stairs thing...I think it all started in second grade, walking home from school, whom amongst us didn't play "Step on a crack, break your mother's back"? So we would carefully meter our steps so as not to break our mother's back....

The worst one I went to was a man who hoarded food. He had food piled in every room of the home except for the front room where his wife had told him he could not put anything because that was her one room in the home. They could not even use the kitchen to cook the food because of the boxes and boxes of food that was piled in the kitchen meant you could not get to the stove, sink or microwave. Every can or box had the date he purchased the item written on it. It was very sad. When I was there, he was home, but refused to come downstairs because he was embarrassed. I dealt with his wife who broke down crying while I was there.

My roommate tossed a counter green bean back in the pan, I immediately fished it out and trashed it, pointing out he was lucky I didn't throw the whole thing away (and I might have if the counter hadn't been cleaned earlier in the day). The ironic thing, I'm sort of a messy person. You'd think my kitchen would need to be spotless, nope. So long as I have a clean place to work and a sink with soap and a clean towel, I'm good.

A way to showcase your junk and make it look like sentimental art We spent yesterday moving junk around in our garage (beanie babies? don't get me started!) so DD can bring more junk back when she moves back home while job hunting. I'm still waiting for our sons to have their own space to put their tons of comic books and baseball card collections! Somehow where ever they live doesn't quite have the room. The curse of telling them they didn't need to take them until they had room to store. I could move all my crapola from MY closet into that space and be done with it! <<<off to clean out my closet, this thread has been inspiring. We have 45's and albums, old newspapers with headlines of things like Reagan being shot, my old creepy dolls, DH's mom's highschool yearbook, etc. Stuff we have moved from place to place. Oh man, today is not going to be fun. I feel the need to go to Target and get some plastic boxes and use that space we made for DD's junk.
