Some observations: The staff was incredible. We were assigned room 2211 at check in and it was on the bend in bldg 2, the room was wedge-shaped and had no balcony. It seemed smaller than the pictures I'd seen online of the typical rooms and I didn't care for the layout at all, especially the fact that there was no balony. I called front desk right away and explained that I didn't care for the configuration of the room and they said they'd offer me more choices to look at. Instead of having me come to the front desk, within moments a staff person came up to the room and walked me to nearby rooms in the same building and allowed me to choose the room I liked. Talk about service! One room was further down the hall alongside the freeway and although the layout was fine and it had a balcony, the freeway noise was apparent. So he walked me to room 2213 which was an awesome room and was the one I chose instantly. Beautiful balcony room overlooking the pool and a great view of the Monorail going by too, and no freeway noise at all. So if you're going and you want a deluxe 2 queen room without paying for a theme park view, I recommend room 2213 no question. Remember I looked at 3 rooms in that building. It's on the 2nd floor and I think the higher up you go in the building, the more noticeable is the freeway noise. The room is just around the corner from the elevator which is convenient yet we never heard elevator noise.
Another observation: yes the beds are HARD. I believe the whole hotel has these Fred Flintstone concrete beds. I'd sit on the bed and hardly make a dent in it and it killed my back, although I don't have back problems. I think if you have back problems and like an extra firm mattress you'd be happy with these. Personally I like a soft bed to collapse into after a long day at the parks. My kids (ages 15 and 9) even had miserable nights on those beds. We had to get a rollaway one night out of desperation and then we went to Target to get air mattresses. When I told front desk this, they immediately removed the rollaway charge from our bill. We spent the rest of the nights on air mattresses. Even so, I will choose Hojos next time and just bring the air mattresses from now on. We drive so it's no big deal to include them.
Conclusion: I would stay here again mainly because the staff was excellent and the grounds were lovely too. Stay in room 2213 if you want a great non-Disney view room that still has a beautiful view of the pool and monorail.

You know, we are actually completely redoing all the bedding in all of our rooms throughout the hotel. Over the next six months, the mattresses and the sheeting is all going to be replaced.

The mattresses will be upgraded to the same brand/type that the Westin hotels use on their properties, so that should eliminate the Flintstone Effect next time!

I hope that the new beds are in my room by the time we stay in May!
My friend, on the advice of myself, just stayed at Hojos and could not say enough about how fabulous her stay was.
Thanks Hojos and cannot wait to stay with you again in May!
