Originally Posted By EighthDwarf "Do those missions people go on have something to do with determining worthiness? Or is that a separate deal?" As josh alluded to, this is a separate deal. You need to be temple-worthy to go on a mission. Missions are funny things (I served one for two years in Europe). They are supposed to be the church reaching out to bring the gospel to those that have not heard it, but I'm not sure that's the real purpose. If it were, why send out relatively uneducated, naive 19 year olds? I think Mormon missions are more about converting oneself to the faith than converting others. Wouldn't you agree with that somewhat josh?

I hardly think that's why they don't discuss things though. If you're referring to the magic underpants thing, that's how it was told to me and that's what I googled...came right up. I could hardly poke fun at it, since I've never even heard of it til just a couple of days ago.

Like I said, that's what I heard and that's what I googled...I really didn't even think about it when I was replying with a thank you to someone.

Oh, well, while I'm here-- What if they are HAPPILY unmarried? Is that not allowed? Why is a woman classified as not being worthy of holding an independent position of her own?
