Truman saved at least one million lives by having the courage to drop the bomb. That is irrefutable. During the 50's the U.S. probably had arguably the "happiest" and peaceful 8 years in our history. It was innocence incarnate much like the Walt Disney phenonmenon that I grew up in coincidentally the same time. Ike was AGAINST the military taking over the government so I have NO idea where you're coming from??????????

The US media and history books are very myopic on what they report, and given I live in Europe, I may not always get the skinny on what is going down domestically in the US - though with the web, CNN, NBC and Fox it makes life a little easier). It's ok to disagree. That's the beauty of living in a democracy. I used to be a lot more optimistic before the ChAD debacle in 2000. Now I've lost A LOT of faith. BTW -- glad we agree on Reagan - can you believe he had to look at his script to say it was crowded on Main Street on Disneyland's opening day?

That said, I unapologetically believe ALL parents ... moms and dads, men and women ... ought to be spending much less time at work and much more time at home. Far too many kids are raising themselves because their moms and dads place far too much emphasis on success and achievement outside the home. No woman is more powerful than a good mother. >>> BTW -- glad we agree on Reagan - can you believe he had to look at his script to say it was crowded on Main Street on Disneyland's opening day? Someone can't look at a piece of paper without being labelled a dim bulb? C'mon. Agreed, Reagan wasn't especially quick, and he had a short attention span. Big deal. That isn't the same as wisdom, vision and character, three traits much more necessary in the presidency. One can debate about whether Reagan had them, but there is scant evidence that either of the Clintons has any of the three.
