We are taking about a group of people who were welfare cases long before the hurricane gave them free stuff. Not all of them of, but a LOT of them. A LOT of them.

If that letter from Utah WAS bogus, I am willing to bet that it's not that far off from the truth.

Remember when I predicted these people would use their FEMA cards to buy malt liquor, smokes and lottery tickets?

Turned out I was wrong because they also bought strippers, designer jeans and handbags with their bonus money. Oh, many actually sold their cards for cash so they could buy drugs.

The best way to help these people is to make them get a job and cut off their free gravy train.

    Humbug!!

A very appropriate quote from you, Beaumandy, especially at this time of year. Maybe the three ghosts that visit you will teach you something.

People are where they are at in life because of decisions they make.

This hurricane actually gives many of these people a total new start in life, yet here they are sitting around just like before demanding the handouts?

Why should any of us feel sorry for them?

I saw the Scrooge starring Albert Finney the other night. It was very good.

'Many can't go there; and many would rather die.'

The father worked at one of the Casino's. After Katrina the family was relocated ( by a local church ) to Buford, GA. The parents who are of Thia origin are now both employeed, live in section eight housing and are very thankful to the entire community for their genoricity. The father says he is now hanging sheetrock, he had no choice but to learn a new trade. He says he can work constantly if he wants too as their is so much construction going on in Atlanta ( the city has over 1 Billion dollars worth of new construction going on right now ). The entire family enjoys living here and says they are staying and will not be going back to Mississippi. Now on the other hand we have many evacues in Atlanta who are staying in hotels and refuse to get jobs ( there have been multiple job fairs and only locals have shown up ). I already mentioned how a 21 year old from New Orleans had two hotel rooms and a house all payfor by the US tax payer. He was using all three locations to sell drugs to finance his crystal meth addiction.

I had dinner two weeks ago at a resturant in the town where my moutain house is in NC. The place is popular for upper middle class Lousianna's as well as Floridians. Anyway at the table next to me was a group of older women who were all from LA. They were talking about how there are a lot of jobs now back in New Orleans and elsewhere but all the cleanup and new construction work was being done by Mexicans as the "locals" would not work. One woman said her son owns a resturant in the French Quarter and he had to flag down the garbage truck as the Mexicans don't know where anything is. And once stopped the Mexicans refused to put his trash in the truck so he had to throw it in back himself. Apparently Mexicans are now driving the local garbage trucks. I know the Mayor of New Orleans has come to Atlanta several times to try and get the "locals" to return to New Orleans and they will not leave Atlanta.
I really resent all these refrences to Scrooge. When I was younger I wanted a home, a career and in order to get those things I had to move to Georgia. I didn't set on my butt and demand the the Imperial Federal Government provide me with housing, food, a job or everything else I would ever need in life. I know Katrina was devistating but I cant' help but believe that these lazy people are taking advantage of the genoricty, kindness of the US tax payer.
I don't recall in Scrooge seeing a group of homeless people demanding that the courts use the police power of government to take away Scrooge's money and clothing to satisfy their sloth, lazyness and chemical addictions.

From each according to his abilities to each according to his needs.

Didn't Bush push something through that allowed those awarded government contracts to rebuild New Orleans (often no-bid contracts) to hire people for subminimum wage? Isn't this why we have so many "guest workers" doing that work? Who in his right mind would come back to a devastated city without housing to work for subminiumum wage, when minimum wage isn't even enough to raise a family on?
