My son thought thist was a strange request until I told him I used to give them away when I had lots picked by this time of the year. The fruit is getting ripe later so I didn't have any to give away yet. I know some of the strip malls and shoppping centers were giving out candy and churches were having Harvest Festivals so I think parents take their kids there instead of around the neighborhood.

We used to get a couple hundred! But the crowds have definitely died down. Most of the kids seem to be going to safe parties instead. And our neighborhood is getting older. It was all brand new when we moved here and most of the homes were occupied by young families with little ones. Little ones that have now grown up and moved on.

Understandably not in older neighborhoods where there aren't many young'uns... but I heard from 2 sources that the kids are driven to the pricey neighborhoods that are highly decorated, and give better goodies. One woman told me a house in their neighborhood had a cotton-candy machine last year, and gave out 1500! She said they always stock up with tons of candy. Wasn't sure how many they had this year, but a LOT!

We gave out over a 1,000 pieces, 2 pieces each, this year and ran out of candy. The weather wasn't great and there weren't as many kids this year as there were last year. We came home to a full bowl of candy with maybe2 -3 pieces gone. Such honest neighbor kids. One of the cutest was a girl who was taking her dog trick or treating. he was dressed up as a skunk! LOL! Very cute. He got a pupperoni.
