Definitely! I also find that the sleep I get before midnight is "worth" more than the sleep after midnight - so if I go to bed late and sleep in, I'm not as refreshed in the morning even if I managed 8 hours or more.

Probably five hours per night Monday-Friday and five hours each night on Saturday and Sunday, plus an hour or two mid-day nap those two days.

Call it maybe 40 hours per week. And I have the crankiness and circles under my eyes to prove it. Bah.

Unfortunately, the hot flashes can put the kibosh (that's probably spelled wrong, too... *L*) on anything I try. Just sent away for a sample of Estroven PM - maybe that'll help. :)

It's a pain in the patoot gettin' old!

A typical night though I am asleep by 10:30pm and awake at about 7:30am. Now I wake up a few times, like at 5am when either my hubby is off to work or the cats want to get out. But generally I fall back asleep pretty quick. I am also the kind of person that doesn't need an alarm clock to wake up.

I'm 54 and I can honestly say that every year I live is better than the last. Sure, some negative aspects of aging can be a drag. But there are so many benefits that offset it...

Clearer view of what is important in life.
Generally a more relaxed approach to life.
Your adult children figure out that you're not so bad after all.
You generally become increasingly well off financially.
If you are married your relationship becomes what you always thought marriage was supposed to be but never really was when you were younger.

I’m not saying life STARTS at 50, but if I had the opportunity to go back and start over from age 19 again, there is NO WAY I would do it.

But for some reason, no matter how tired I am during the day, once the nighttime rolls around, I am wide awake again. I've always been that way, even as a little kid.

I was much the same way until I learned the art of "bed floating". I'm not sure how it started... probably some vacation "up north" when the fish weren't biting and it was too darned hot to golf.

At any rate, I'd retreat into our cabin, lie down on the bed and try to put EVERYTHING out of my mind. It isn’t easy at first, because if nothing else you find your mind thinking about putting everything out of it. But with enough practice you really CAN clear your mind of all thoughts. If a random thought comes along you just dismiss it without thinking about it.

When you are able to totally clear your mind it gets to where you almost feel like you are floating above the bed rather than lying on it, which is why I named it "bed floating".

Now I can go to sleep ANYWHERE at ANY TIME within 3-5 minutes if I want to. My wife can't believe it. I will be sitting talking to her while watching TV and I'll say "I'm going to take a little nap now" and within a couple of minutes (at times only SECONDS) I’m asleep and snoring.

If most folks find it that hard to sleep, I think I should open up a chain of "Bed Floating" schools!!

    lol

P.S. My Bed Floating does not involve the use of drugs or alcohol. Just thought I should make that clear.

    :)

I don't know about that, but if she's "Not in the mood" you can turn your back on her and go to sleep a WHOLE lot faster!!

Maybe I should do something about that. With 2 little kids it's hard though because when they need me, they need me. I'm sure some of you can relate to that, right?
