The storm wasn't forecast to be nearly as bad as Katrina, and it wasn't hitting New Orleans directly like Katrina did, but Nagin got on TV and made a fool of himself yet again. He's now the boy who cried wolf: next time, people won't be so ready to leave, and then he'll have real problems if the storm is as bad as Katrina or if the levees fail again. According to the most recent outage map I've seen, Entergy seems to be making progress in restoring power to our area. Hopefully we'll be on the road home by Saturday. The parish has brought in generators to and pumping trucks to aid the sewerage system, so hopefully things are getting better. Even though Arkansas isn't home, at least we have AC and lights. BTW, a trip to Little Rock that usually takes 7 hours by car took us 14 on Sunday - and we couldn't stop at all for the first six hours because there was nowhere to stop - they were funneling traffic out and weren't allowing anyone to get off the interstate. It was miserable! Hopefully the trip home will be easier. Thanks for the well wishes, Mr. X!
