I am likely within spitting distance of ya, wahoo ... and I haven't seen a snake (probably jinxing myself) here in YEARS. ... And bugs aren't an issue really this time of year.

    Me too ...

<<And, of course, given the choice of an all expenses paid trip to WDW or Italy I'd be grabbing my passport.>>

    AP or USA? ;-)

We went on a historical walking tour as well as the ship wreck museum, Papa's house and a few bars. And I left thinking it was a pleasant day, but nothing special, and no where I would ever try to travel to. But milegae would vary. I think Key West is VASTLY overrated. A place to see to say you've been there, although there are some great places to eat and drink there.

If you're looking for true FLA beauty with islands, ocean, reefs for diving, beaches, resorts etc ... I'd stay in the upper and middle Keys ... Marathon and Islamorada and Big Pine Key are all nice areas ... I even like Key Largo a lot.

But I haven't driven all the way down in 7-8 years now and it may be that long before I head back.

Agreed. Pennecamp State Park is lovely. But besides that, not much to do.
