I haven't seen it yet so I reserve final judgment.

The average income in this country depends on where you live, but is around $40,000 to $50,000 for a single income household.
I don't know anyone who would consider $200,000 middle class...except Mitt Romney (and maybe Donald Trump).

I actually have to agree as well. It looks like Romney flubbed where he wanted to put the upper boundary 250K or 200K not that that was his range.

While this is technically true, anytime someone starts talking accurately on what is middle income, the people from NYC, DC, Chicago, SF, and LA start screaming their heads off.

They represent a lot of votes, so politicians from both sides of the aisle play the $250K a year card. I'm not going to jump on Romney for that one, while there is so much else low hanging fruit.

Anyone that thinks 200-250K is part of the middle class is an imbecile.

I live in NYC. Yes, you need more to live here than you do in Wichita.

But not THAT much more. What andyll said is correct.

Let's rephrase. William, do think someone with earnings just above the 96th percentile is middle income?

    Because that's what 250K represents.

    Look at the question again:

GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: Is $100,000 middle income?

MITT ROMNEY: No, middle income is $200,000 to $250,000 and less.

According to Romney, $235K or $240K a year is "middle income." Obama never said that. Nor would he be so tone deaf as to do so, IMO.

So you are saying that the middle class makes up 98% of the population.

1% rich, 1% poor and 98% middle class?

The median income for NY (state) is 55K... higher but still 1/5 of what Romney considers middle class.

Manhatten has a median income of ~65K... 1/4 of what Romney considers middle class.

The USA city with the highest meadian income was only 248K in 2009.

He calls it that because that's what he brings in on a typical Wednesday, middle of the week income.
