Be honest with her barboy! She may not find out now, but you'll always have that there, in the back of your mind, and there is always that chance she'll find out, and the trust will be forever tainted. Is it really worth it?

Last night I just happened to walk in on a movie scene(Sister-in-law was watching a DVD).........Who has seen 'Meet The Parents' with Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro? Gabe Fakker(Stiller) tried to fool the CIA man(DeNiro) by finding a loolalike stray cat to replace 'Jinx', his girfriends's house pet, who went missing. Gabe got caught and was kicked out of his girlfriend's house.

Wife now knows all and she is not too amused by the lost ring.

Surprisingly(probably to many of you but not to *me*..... like I said she sees the world very differently than the 'typical'---there's that word again, darn!!--- westernized/US American woman) she didn't take much issue with the deception and actually welcomed the imposter ring as much as one can I suppose .....hey, anything to indicate that I'm married right, LOL!!!.... but she fears that our marrige has problems since losing a ring is a bad omen, a very bad omen indeed according to her.

We'll be Ok but I guess this is what happens when one marries someone from an entirely different culture; it's kind of fun really.

I have pulled tags off a few times over the years but that is far more the exception than rule. I only did it to the the shirts that had overly stiff labels that rubbed against my neck.

You might be on to something there as I'll be damned if I ever wear those flip-flop sandle things. Those toe dividers in the flip-flop(as well as the sounds they make and the lack of security like a normal shoe or fully strapped sandal) really drive me up the wall.

So we went to a jeweler and designed our own bands- hard to picture here but 3 'braided' gold bands soldered together by 2 'diamond cut' bands. So much thinker than any ring I had seen. We still get compliments on them from complete strangers to this day...

I lost it once working in the yard and rented a metal detector and we found it in the mulch.....

I still was uncomfortable with it early on- today I rarely take notice.

From what little I know about people who believe in omens; you may be married for 50 years and she will still believe losing the ring was a bad sign. With deep seeded beliefs like that no amount of contrary evidence will change their mind. I am not a professional; I'm just speaking from quite a bit of life experience and a few college classes.
My unofficial opinion is that things will iron themselves out and you will going having a happy marriage (assuming it was happy before this.)
    Good luck!

PS: You didn't have to tell me you never wear flip flops; I guessed that one easily.

Unfortunate. I don't know where those things have been all my life, but they are just the most comfortable possible footwear on Earth, particularly on a hot summers day!

I wear em everywhere, whenever possible. I do get a little paranoid on airplanes though (OMG, what if we crash and I hurt my foot!? lol).

I don't think it's a laughing matter. Did you follow the crash of the Continental Airlines flight in Denver about 10 days ago during take-off? Fortunately, everyone got out alive, but the airplane was soon engulfed in flames and anyone that didn't get out quickly would have surely died. The airplane remained mostly intact, so there was little in the way of broken glass or twisted metal outside, but there was burning fuel and snow on the ground.

That is the perfect scenario where I'd not want to have to evacuate in sandals, bare feet, feet with only socks on them, etc. On airplanes, I wear only sneakers or boots (that is, footwear that will stay on my feet even during adverse conditions) and even for overnight flights don't take them off until we're well in the air.

Statistically, it will never make a difference, but it costs very little to be prepared with proper footwear for an evacuation.

On the ring thing... My mom and dad have been happily married over 50 years. Mom quit wearing her wedding set back in the early '60s because she had allergic reactions to the gold. Dad never had a ring to begin with.

Now, when it comes to the Alices, Mr. wears his ALL the time, except in the shower. Since he'd been single for 13 years after his divorce before meeting me, the ring is of great importance to him. He didn't want anything flashy - no diamonds, but I bought him a nice substantial band - not overly wide, but very thick and heavy in yellow gold.

His first day back to work after our wedding, he LOVED getting the reactions of his friends and coworkers - he hadn't told them we were getting married and relished the surprise. They'd been "encouraging" him for years! Only one person on the crew knew - SHE was his best man! *L* :)

I take my set off to sleep (and shower/wash hands) only because I have a tendency to swing my arms around a lot to get comfy and often whack my hands against the wall, etc. I'd be heartbroken if I damaged my rings or lost any diamonds from them - especially the center stone.

So, I guess my point is - to each their own. Love is the important thing. :)
