I would also mention Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte and The Fall of the House of Usher and pretty much anything with Vincent Price in it. LOL. These are all way old-timey classics so they may not be up your alley but I figured since you could appreciate Hitchcock (as do I) you might like these too.

Have you ever seen Hitchcock's Notorious or Dial M for Murder. (There is a spoof of Dial M for Murder called "Murder by Death" which I think is a hoot.)

I actually put a few of those on my list.

I'd also recommend a British classic from 1945 called Dead of Night. It's credited as being the first "anthology" picture which is made up of a series of shorts tied together by a linking sequence. What makes it better is that the linking sequence is as good as any of the other "main" sequences and arguably better when you get to the twist at the end. It's not exactly a shocker by modern standards, but it's very very eerie, especially the haunted mirror and ventriloquist segments.

Another interesting tidbit is that horror films were not allowed to be made in Britain during WWII - the reasoning being there was enough real-life horror out there. So this was the first big British scare film after the war, and they considered it so scary at the time that they found it necessary to have as one of the episodes a comic relief ghost story!

Be sure to get the full-length print, because some prints are shorter, lacking two of the five stories. I think the DVD's are all full-length.

It's the story of Frankie, a young boy in a coastal New England town in the early 1960s who gets locked in the school cloak room, and sees some ghostly visions -- the unsolved murder of a little girl from years ago. He then sets out to solve the mystery.

Lucas Haas ('Witness') plays the boy, and the rest of the cast is populated by excellent 'I-know-the-face-but-not-the-name' character actors. This was released in the late 1980's, and the special effects are lacking in a couple of scenes, but the good acting, story and heart of the movie more than make up for it. Good creepy little movie I wish more people knew about.

    Here's the tagline from imdb:

    >>The year is 1962. The place is Willowpoint Falls. Nobody talks about what happened in the school cloakroom 10 years ago. Now, in the dead of night, Frankie Scarlatti is going to find out why.<<

I love SOTL, but I've seen it quite a bit so the scares aren't as effective as they used to be. But I will say that the first time I saw it was very scary. Two scenes in particular, when Lecter escapes in the ambulance. IMHO a text book example of scares and suspense. And when the lights go out on Clarice at Buffalo Bill's house.

And both version of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre still get me. The orginal because it's so unnerving. And the remake was very effective. In fact I saw the remake in a crowded theatre and needless to say the entire theatre was filled with people peeking through their fingertips. Then I watched a few months later on dvd and it was still pretty scary.

The Ring was also a movie that scared me quite a bit.

I've only ever seen the 1978 version with Donald Sutherland but I've heard the original 1956 (?) version is a bit better. Isn't that almost always the case? lol<<

"A bit better"? The remake was nothing. The original was one of the scariest movies I've ever seen.

On a completely different note, most of Ed Wood's movies are horrifically bad attempts at horror movies. :)

I also liked the Saw films. The first Ring was creepy, but the second was a bore... LOOK OUT FOR THE DEERS OF DEATH!

I also have these 3 Vincent Price suggestions:
    -The Abominable Dr. Phibes
    -Dr. Phibes Rises Again!
-Theatre of Blood (my favorite of the three)
