The housing costs are a little lower in some of the outlying areas. For example, I grew up about 40 minutes north of Seattle in Arlington and the housing prices are better there than in a lot of the state. It is the same in a lot of the smaller towns.

The nice thing about Reno is we get enough to enjoy and it melts by the afternoon. I have not shoveled once since moving here. We can always visit Truckee/Tahoe if we have the desire to go play in the snow.
