The way you guys describe it makes it sound fun, not scary at all. I'm really starting to get excited now. I found a ride through of soarin online and it looks sooo AWESOME! Only 3 more weeks and I'll be there to try it out for myself!

I wouldn't get in line at 9:30 though because then you are still stuck standing there for 1/2 hour. 9:50 may be a good time to get in line.), or, get a fast pass first thing and use it early in the day, after it's available of course.

Some people are afraid of heights. I have severe claustrophobia, so I had to do a strong psych job on myself to get up the courage to ride the new Nemo subs. Sure, it's a mild ride. But it's in a tight space, and I really didn't want to be freaking out in the middle of a ride with 40 other people staring at me. I rode Mission: Space in Epcot one time, and that was enough. The ride itself was no big deal. But when that control panel moved within inches of my face, I just about lost it!

Jenn, you'll be fine on Soarin'. The illusion of flying is pretty real, so as long as you don't have a fear of heights, you'll be fine.

Soarin is a very gentle ride and doesn't really jar you at all. My mother-in-law doesn't like heights and gets motion sick but that is her all time favorite ride.

Make sure you post a trip report after you go...I would love to hear your take on the rides you were afraid of. Have fun!

Oh, alright. But only to the degree that I really and truly HATE seeing people making excuses to NOT do something they actually might like.

You rode Mission: Space. You may have acute claustrophobia but you rode it at least that one time to experience it. Whether you ever ride it again is your call and applaud your decision.

And another case in point. We just had a great friend in from GA. He hates heights and really didn't want to go on Maliboomer. Well, he decided to go on with us and found out, much to his surprise, it wasn't so bad after all. Funny that he loves the WDW version of TOT but hated DCA's because, as he said, without the 5th Dimension room, he didn't know when it would drop....and it scared him when it just dropped, LOL

All I am telling Jenn31 is to not give into her fear of not knowing. Run, don't walk onto both rides and scream, laugh nervously or freak out and hate it! You'll never know until you try and you really might just surprise the heck out of yourself!

And this is precisely why I feel DCA/WDSP's is better than WDW's.

In general I agree with you. But I also feel that people have a pretty good sense of what they can or can't take. If someone rides a roller coaster and hates every second of it, there's no reason for them to ever ride another one. If jenn freaks out every time she's on a moving ride, then she does indeed need to be concerned by Soarin', no matter how mild it is. I'm hoping she screws her courage to the sticking place and gives it a shot, as it's a truly remarkable experience.

Well, not to derail the thread, but Me too.

The only thing I think should have been changed in Gen 2 TOT's is the Load/Unload Hall Way same place flaw.
Easy but expensive fix to the original concept would be to have a single level Boiler Room Load area dug/built under the existing ground level. You would leave the Library and proceed 'down' a basement ramp into the Boiler Room where you loaded the actual service elevator. Then after your trip to the Twilight Zone, you actually exited above the Boiler Room on the ground floor and the 'mysteriously' empty ride vehicle just goes down a floor to load.

    I
    I

    I

    I
    IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
    I I
    I I
    IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

And yes, it could be done without going under ground but where is the fun in that ;-) Just loose the upper Load portion of the current Boiler Room to the permanent Unload and rebuild the elevator path to include a decent from Unload down to Load.

Loose double load to get better show? The imagineers had to have been tossing this concept around.

    ...sorry, back to topic, LOL

Years later I tried to go on again (and I really wanted to go) I passe out cold the first 30 seconds of the ride. I tried the little coaster in toontown a few years ago and got so dizzy the spins didnt stop for thirty minutes after I rode and I threw up. I've tried the matterhorn and big thunder, all with similar outcomes. I can and do ride splash because it's a log ride and there's no "rolling" sensation you get when riding a coaster. It's not that I'm afraid of the rides or even nervous to ride, that's not it at all. I'm afraid of what physically happens to me when I ride these rides. I DO WANT TO RIDE! More than anything! The last time I tried to ride anything "bigger" was about six years ago. I want to do this. I really do. I'm taking my parents with me this trip and they know how I am with rides. My mom has been finding me ride throughs online and that's helped. Now I know what to expect. I'm getting excited to ride! So..Aug 29- Sept 2nd, please just send happy disney thoughts and pixie dust my way. I'm so determined to do this. I just hope my body will agree with my mind. :)

The other thing that bothers me is the joyous emotions I feel that can move me to tears - that I try to hide.

It is truly a great attraction.

Now I'm getting excited for you Jenn!

I asked her once how this was even possible, and she replied calmly "I don't look out the window." Seriously. She managed the ride that one time, though, by just closing her eyes. There is not a single motion on Soarin' that upset her, so it's not the ride itself - just the visual. You could do the same if it's not to your liking, but you may find (as a lot of us have) that this is Disney Magic taking us safely where we would otherwise never get to go!

She's also afraid of heights. You don't notice the height unless you bend over and look down.

And the motion of the simulator is very very smooth.

I hope it isn't a traumatic experience for you and I am glad you are doing this.
