I'm getting a good vibe about Narnia

I agree with this -- has been added to my, "I'd like to go here one day list" - also my understanding is that some of the large sets for Lotr were not CGI, as it was actually cheaper to build them ( Meeting hall in Rohan) - and were left as places to visit

This isn't because I thought the film wasn't good, it's because I've known and treasured these books for 20 years since I first discovered them as little boy. I know I couldn't expect to see a literal word-for-word presentation on the screen, but I couldn't help but hope for a 99% adaptation, lol. I liked how they had some "Lol!" moments throughout.

Those of you who've seen the film and not read the book, I *highly* encourage you to read the books---and in the original published order:

    1) The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
    2) Prince Caspian
    3) The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
    4) The Silver Chair
    5) The Horse and His Boy
    6) The Magician's Nephew
    7) The Last Battle

But I've come to love them and realize that Peter Jackson did one heck of a job -- and that they so far exceeded my expectations when i first heard about them being made.

I ask because I have only read 2 of C S Lewis's books so I am nowhere near as close to those stories....and it seems you are

I still listen to "Into the West" frequently and I think it beautifully captures the feel of the films...I'll have to get a full soundtrack someday.

I'm also *extremely* protective of my favorite characters, so to see them represented differently or with "adjustments" is very jarring for me. I'll be seeing Narnia on the big screen again though, and this time it'll be different since I know what to expect...yes, some things will bother me a lot, but I'll know what's coming, lol.

So you've only read 2 Narnia books? I assume LWW and PC? If you have any interest in the rest, I strongly encourage you to finish the series---it is well worth it.

Whole characters got left out ( Yom Bombadil) of Lotr and sequences like the burning of the Shire -- serious stuff as you then don't see how Saruman dies -- even in the directors cuts ( which I highly recommend if you are going to rewatch ) - don;t cover this

I am a HUGE LOTR/Tolkien fan. For those movies, I had a similar reaction to TDG's reaction for LWW. I really enjoyed them, but was also disappointed.

I do think that LWW is less likely to draw in non-family, non-book fans, as I think that LOTR did. I don't necessarily see that as a knock on the film, just a reality of the level of the story (LWW and the Chronicles ARE children's fantasy stories).

I haven't read the Chronicles in awhile, but want to go back and do so now. I intentionally waited until AFTER seeing the movie.

You are correct - I guess I just didn't see it as how and why --

Now speaking of the songs the only time it worked was in Return of the King when Faramir and his men were charging towards Osgillath.

I've read LWW a few times and while I think it's a great story I don't have that deep emotional connection to the story.

Now if say someone (ahem Peter Jackson) were to make the Hobbit, that better be good. My all-time favorite book.
