LOL@BT...while postin' in "southern style" may be fittin' with an article mentionin' "Mama's Family", I figured it was more likely to be accepted if it was "normal", lol.

I just dined out with my sister and brother-in-law who were in town for the day on BIL's business, and I got to surprise 'em with the news in person as we then clinked glasses, lol---it was fun to actually get to tell some family face to face!

I spoke to Mary Costa again today, and we had planned to finally meet the week after my birthday, but it turns out in her many travels she'll be outta town that week...*sigh*...she did say she thinks later this summer will work when her schedule is much lighter.

But she was so happy for me about the article, and she wants me to say hi to Vicki for her (I wonder if that could be my "backstage pass"? lol)---she said they used to be casual friends and she'd be in the studio next door working with Jim Nabors back in the Burnett Show days, so they saw each other a lot---Sleeping Beauty knew Mama, who knew!

She had more children's books in the works that were excellent, but then my dad got sick, and she got sick, and everything kind of went to pot and they both passed away. Still, she was an AMAZING writer and so talented!

I have a real appreciation for anyone with that kind of talent! I am proud to "know" you, in a roundabout way, TDG!

It's funny you asked about the gift...I've taken pictures of all kinds of Mama expressions and silly costumes/poses from the show and I was gonna put 'em in a collage frame for her, but I took soooo many (over 100 -- !), that I think I'll have to cut 'em out and piece 'em together in a big frame and title it "The Many Faces of Mama" at the top.

I actually got the pictures just now in the mail, and OMG---I'm shocked at how great they came out! Considerin' I had to take 'em with my digital camera on VHS tapes where I couldn't pause (lines on screen), I'm *thrilled* with how they turned out!

That's funny you mentioned labor-of-love screencaps, LOL

I work for the Dept of Defense and am co-chair of our local CFC committee here on the base. (It's a campaign that raises millions of dollars each year for thousands of charitable causes -- by soliciting donations from federal employees.) It's the only part of my job that I LIKE and that feel like I really CONTRIBUTE something to. And of course upper management thinks it's just a big, fat waste of everyone's time, but that's because their lives revolve around.... well, I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you. ;-) You get the idea.

My mom's book is no longer being printed, although you can find library copies for sale everywhere online. It's called "Davey Come Home" and her last name was Teibl.

Yep, been with the DoD for, gosh... gotta think about this... well, 17 years next month. And was a gov't contractor for 3 years prior to THAT! I've worked on the base my entire adult life. How sad. LOL

It's not at all the career I would've chosen, really. Not even close. BUT... the pay is nice after all this time, the benefits good, blah blah blah. And, honestly, any time I need to be off for a vacation, trip to the doctor, home with sick kids, or even a school party or field trip, no one bats an eye. So who am I to complain?

Anyway--sorry to get off-track like that. I am still so happy for you!
