The locals are a big part of the reason D-land is so crowded, so I don't see the crowds declining anytime soon. For everyone else, well, people will still go. I think most people will budget a family vacation and make changes in their budget where necessary. If people choose Disneyland for their vacation, the ticket price probably won't stop many.

At least there used to be "off seasons" when the crowds were manageable. But now they fill the place up during the off season with the less expensive SoCal APs.

Here's the new board: http://datelinedisneyland.smug...4-X2.jpg Compare this with the previous layout (this may not show the most recent prices, but I believe is representative of the layout until last Saturday): http://albums.mouseplanet.com/DavidPerry/DLR_ticket_price_sign_dperry_20070922.jpg Two key points: - The new layout reduces the sticker shock of the price increase, as a walk-up customer will see $87 as the "standard" price rather than $125. - It also promotes the notion that each park is a full-day experience and that park-hopping is not necessary or the default, but an add-on if you want it.

To save money, I think I'll got for the one day park per day option next year.

I might buy a 1 day ticket sometime to see all the new things at DCA and skip Disneyland altogether. Who'd have thunk it a couple years ago, huh? Maybe for me it'll be back to 1 full day at DL, the next at Knott's or Universal like we used to do when I was growing up.

I could easily see the lustor of replacing even 10-15% of the AP base with higher spending tourists as they don't necessarily need their 'seat fillers' of APs this year. As a CM at WDW I've been fascinated to see the difference of blackout dates for our admission passes this summer. WDW has 2 days total this summer (July 3/4th MK only) vs BOTH parks being blacked out for all of June/July and most of August (DL has 2 of the 4 weeks available)and makes bet I won't get to use my pass for Marathon weekend.. Itll be interesting to see how the rate hikes affect the attendance and how long its been since my first $199 PAP in 2002... -em

I did that back in 2001, when DCA first opened. I went to DLR 3 times that year, and on two of those visits I skipped DL.

Also, they've been giving the PAP a 20% discount on merchandise for several years now -- it's still "holiday" discount. Keep that as a standard, and $649 may not seem so bad...
