While I agree with your point, Lee, I'll say once again that anyone can go anywhere at WDW without being questioned. In this day and age, I find that very scary. I don't blame a fan for wanting to check out a closed-off area. I blame Disney for having PR security!

And it will bite them on the butt if anything bad happens in one of their parks.

Paging Danyoung to the thread ... Danyoung can you please respond immediately (and put down that churro, have you seen yourself lately?)

2.) I was entering in a restricted area. In hoping over the rope I was trying to teach my 11 year old son to disregard authority at all costs. (Not sure how on Earth he has never gotten in trouble with his conduct at said school. I am failing him!)

3.) I was not only endangering my sons opinion of me but putting the two of us at risk for bodily injury and perhaps DEATH from a guy with a high voltage paint sprayer. (When we saw THAT guy, we hauled &^$# out of there and just in the nic of time too, I think he has run out of paint!)

LEEMAC ----- I am so kidding. You are right, I was out of line no question about it. But think if this... Many parents barely watch their kids if at all, and I have seen with my own eyes, a stray toddler or 4 year old heading up those stairs alone. If there were anything super secret or DANGEROUS up there, I think that there would be more than a nylon rope with a sign. Ofcourse ... I could be wrong.

But point taken, I won't do it again. I recently found out that you can lose your annual pass doing something like that and worse, be banned. Now with the finger print deal, I guess it's come down the ability to actually ban someone and enforce it.

I agree to a point. I've no idea what security used to be like but it must be a logistical nightmare to "police" the resort. I can't even begin to imagine how that is planned and executed.

DVC_dad I was blowing a lot of bluster. I can appreciate it was too tempting! It just bothers me that in the age of excessive litigation in the US that people struggle to abide by simple safety rules. I hope you got a decent peek! :)

On the way into the queue for the ride, I seem to remember seeing an escalator and an elevator. I could just be mixing my memory with something completely different, but are those really there? And if so, what do they go to? It seems that they would have taken anything out that didn't need to be there when they were redoing the ride, as there was major construction going on. Also, they look to be very new and very well maintained. The elevator is glass, and in a glass surrounding, and the escalator is bright and colorful. What's with that?

    You remember correctly.

The escalator either was taken out or is behind a wall of the new queue.

The glassed in elevator is still exactly where it always is and you can find the spiral staircase that wraps around it in the post-show gift shop/exit area.

Both went to the second level Image Works and both have faded from view since 1998.

I have not seen/notices the escalator in eight years. When did you see it?

As I said, the elevator is right where it's always been and I'm sure it's still functional.

The elevator was just to your right as you enter the same room. It is the first room after getting inside, that is supposed to hold the over flow queue, but is always empty. I think there are a couple little movie props in cases in the same room. I remember them being there ever since the second version opened. The last time I was there (March 05) I don't remember seeing the escalator, just a grey corregated metal wall, but I'm pretty sure the elevator was there. I could have been halloucinating, but it really seemed real.

But, knowing Disney as I do, they likely just walled up the escalators instead of removing them. Cheaper that way.

I'm not even sure where the stairs, escalator or elevator is. I suppose I could always ask.

I know its all the same building but the left side (with Hista) is cut off from the rest of the building. At least that has been my understanding.

Sorry I was late (and what's with the churro crack? I'm on a diet!!!). Yeah, that'd be me sneaking into the Wonders of Life. I did it by walking between some potted plants that were spread across the walkway. I walked up to the front of the building and the automated doors opened for me. It was pretty danged tough.

I've always been one to peek behind the scenes, not just at Disney but everywhere, ever since I was a kid. I've never been hurt, but I've been busted many times. The worst penalty that I've ever gotten was "hey kid, you shouldn't be back here!" I've never been unsafe, never caused any harm, never been hurt. And I've seen a lot of cool stuff, including one last look at the WofL pavilion, just sitting there ready to come back to life at the flip of a switch (or the stroke of a spreadsheet).

So lee, while I'd never suggest anyone else be as sneaky as I've been, I stand by my escapades, and will continue to enjoy the hidden pleasures of sneaking over the rope, or through the plants, or under the fence.

(Ask me about Typhoon Lagoon after hours sometime!)

    Tell me about it.

If Disney was all that concerned they'd plant a CM out in front with guidemaps and such. It's obviously not a concern for them.

I'm just like you. I've always enjoyed checking out abandoned buildings and such. I loved sneaking into department stores that had gone out of business as a kid, and I think that -- in hindsight-- is a lot more dangerous than walking into a closed, but still utilized pavillion at Epcot.

FWIW, I used to 'know someone' who regularly cut thru the MK tunnels to get out during crowded periods in the 1990s. This person was never stopped once by anyone in dozens of trips below ground. He was told by a Disney VP that security would never allow that after 9/11, but tested it out again twice in 2003 and never had a problem.

Or so I've been told ;-)

I wouldn't stress, Danny Boy. I'm sure Lee has committed his own transgressions in life. We all have!

That's really a story to be told over a few martini's. Let's just say it involved improper access, too much alcohol, and not enough clothing. It wasn't a pretty picture . . .

The work on the second floor is for a WDI R&D test that will be unveiled later in August. It is a new interactive Meet 'n' Greet featuring Kim Possible. It is only going to run for a short period and is not part of any Imagination pavilion overhaul. Nothing has been approved for that pavilion. That is the case.

I had been told that the Kim Possible test would go into the Innoventions building but it seems that has morphed into the second floor of the Imagination Institute.
