An IMAX movie is filmed specifically for an IMAX projection. Theatrical releases are not. They're not framed for it, and I would venture to say that shots aren't composed with IMAX viewing in mind. When I saw "Beauty and the Beast," we were seated as far back from the screen as possible, but given the width of the screen I might as well have watched it on TV with my face 6 inches away from the screen. It's almost impossible to take in the whole picture. I would be open to seeing another movie in IMAX, but I will see it first in a conventional movie theatre so as not to ruin my experience on the first viewing. Either way, I hope this is a trend that dies a quick death. Warner Bros., are you listening???

These less refined details were not as obvious on a smaller screen. Other than Treasure Planet, I would recommend seeing feature films in IMAX.

I wonder if anyone else feels the same about this format of IMAX screens. I have seen regular IMAX produced movies there and it was awesome being completely surrounded by the image. But as far as regular releases go, I have only seen Fantasia and Polar Express and I felt like I was way too close for both. It was almost nauseating trying to take it all in, especially in close up scenes.

I can see I'm in the minority here, and that's OK, too. I plan to see "Superman Returns" on IMAX, but like I said, I'll see it first in a conventional theatre.
