There are also a few favorite spots at Disneyland and DCA where time seems to stand still and I feel so blessed to be where I'm standing on this planet :). One place is in NOS just past the entrance of Pirates walking with the crowd (hopefully not too large, LOL) of happy people passing by who have no doubt just been on the rides we're getting ready to board (HM,Splash). Again it's the Jazz music playing seemingly in sync with the intermittent blast of the horn from the Mark Twain; music to my ears. Then POTC holds a lot of magic for me b/c it really reminds me of my childhood at Disneyland. I used to wonder who lived in the buildings above. I love the smell of stagnant water and the click-click of the boats returning from their voyage in the queue area with the lull of the pirates music playing. The scene we pass with the old man rocking in the chair with "Old Susanna" being slowly but methodically strummed by an unknown source....yeah, that's the essence of Disney magic to me. Yes, there is even an area of DCA that to me has that Disney magic. It's the wide area in front of Soarin'. I don't think I've ever stood in that spot and experienced any other kind of weather but the sun on my shoulders or maybe a gentle breeze at night. It always makes me think about how much nicer the weather is in So Cal than Nor Cal :).

Ever since I was a little girl, while Walt was still with us, it was driving the last bit through the remaining groves. It was seeing the Matterhorn before seeing anything else. It was seeing the old Disneyland sign at the now defunct parking lot.

It was the sounds, too: Count Basie's orchestra playing the song my mother named me for the instant I stepped through Cinderella's castle and on to the bridge as I was leaving the park. I leaned on the railing and watched them across the water and just cried from sheer joy.

The smells: Pirates...all of the food...

The sights: young children completely believing their eyes...teenagers and adults, too.

There are few places I consider to be heaven on earth. Disneyland is one of them. What a privilege it is to be a part of it all.

My words cannot express my joy.

I read someone else's post about the smell of the water from POTC. It has been six years since my last visit to DL and it's heartbreaking, because I realize now that I'm forgetting some little things.... like, for example, the smell of the water. It is so hard to be away for so long.

Riding the Mark Twain. Especially around the backside, when you're away from the rest of the park, and it seems like you're in a different world.

Riding the RR(and also hearing "All aboard!" when passing through the tunnel)

While in the middle of FL.

    The smell when entering Pirates.

I'm sure there's many other places that I'm not thinking of right now. :)

WendyMoiraAngela! No, it's not Ella (it's Laura), but I do have a granddaughter named Ella Jane because her mother (my daughter) and I love Ella Fitzgerald so much. :)

And...I my two youngest daughters (14 and 17) ADORE Alice in Wonderland and she is their favorite character and it is their favorite movie!

Soulmates! And yes, it's very hard to be away for so long. I will admit that I teared up reading people's posts too, because they brought back so many long-forgotten memories.

One last indulgence: I wanted to be named Angela when I was a little girl, after Angela Cartwright (from Make Room for Daddy..an old tv show..and The Sound of Music) :)

    • The teacups music - always makes me dance!

    • The smell on Pirates!

    • The rows of strollers lined up outside of Small World (and everywhere else) - with little or no concern of anyone getting stollen.

    • Sitting on Main Street and hearing the Jungle Cruise pistols!

I agree about the Disney magic- you either "get it" or you don't- it's so nice when you see how many people are experiencing that same magic. Reading these posts is like natural Prozac !:)

i forgot to mention casey jr at night is pretty magical. in fact all of fantasyland at night is very magical. i think because fantasyland is the land that has the most disneyland only attractions, it very magical. you know you are disneyland with the matterhorn towering above everything.
