Rebekah - I love John Williams night at the bowl too, but I've only been twice.

I enjoyed this movie. I like to go watch and enjoy an action adventure without over thinking everything and I could do this.
I especially liked it that Indy wasn't ready to hand his hat over to Mutt at the end. :)

It wasn't nearly as corney as Temple. And there was some stuff in this one I really liked. There was a little American Graffitti, a little Close Encounters. I didn't get an E.T. like everyone else. And the "slow part" I've been hearing about must have been edited out of the version I saw. But I liked it. I saw the Sat. matinee, got somepop corn, and had a good time. I was afraid it was going to bad. But it wasn't bad. I actually like the alien thing. Any other older people here remember a movie that came out in 1972 movie based on the 1968 book called "Charoits of the Gods". It was a documentary that brought all the giant drawings in S. Am. to pop culture. Given the age Spielberg/Lucas/Ford I'm am sure they wer influenced by the old crazy. It was cool back then, and still very interesting now.
Anyway I liked it. It wasn't fantastic, it was good. A fun time that I feel holds up to the pressure of being an Indy film.
I feel we are in for some "Adventures of Mutt" films. And I will be happy to go see them. Rumor mill say at least 3!?!

2/4 people thought his name was Mud after the end of the movie. I read this, and also read it on his jacket (before the comment above).

I also likes that Indy kept his hat.

PROBLEM: Way to much of this movie felt as if it had been done and seen before. And for me the worst offender was the ant scene. Totally ripped off from THE MUMMY. Only, the SCARABS were more cringe worthy and exciting.

I must admit I'm at a loss as to understand how anyone could like this movie. I thought it was resolutely terrible.

The storyline was so stupidly convoluted that it had to be explained to us numerous times - why Spielberg persists with David Koepp I don't know. It also felt like a series of vignettes rather than a coherent movie. I enjoyed the bomb site scene but it didn't really serve any purpose at all. The snake as a rope was the single worst scene I've ever seen in an Indy movie.

The acting was hammy. I did think Harrison Ford was exceptional considering the terrible dialog he had to deliver (the nod to Marcus and Henry Jones Snr was cringe-worthy). Cate Blanchett was apalling - no real menace and the accent was fluctuating across Europe. Shia LaBouef's shtick just didn't work here. The rest of the cast were treated as roadkill - just snippets to work with. Great actors like John Hurt, Ray Winstone and Jim Broadbent were rendered useless.

The problem was that they didn't offer us up anything new - it was either rehashed from previous Indys (like the "we are going to push you off a cliff" car chase - granted it was trying to push Indy into a cliff edge in a previous movie) or from better product like the two National Treasure movies or The Mummy. It also didn't have that B-movie look and feel that worked so well in the first three. I don't get the haziness that needs to cover all of ILM's special effects now. It is just so obvious.

I really wanted a big finale - that puzzle-solving conclusion to The Last Crusade was amazing. Jeff Boam's script was just so much better in that movie - minimalistic - no need to force it (always loved that whole Word of God ending). It just felt so flat. No suspense or drama at all.

I really did find the whole thing offensive. It just felt like they were just going through the motions for commercial reasons and I feel dirty for being sucked into it. I've not enjoyed a single Spielberg movie since The Last Crusade (with the exception of Jurassic Park but that was more about the jaw-dropping SFX) and I should have known better.

I didn't enjoy it truth be told. It was just too much for me - I didn't think Thomas Keneally's book was filmic material and I still believe that to be true. Steven Zaillian's screenplay was phenomenal (I'm a big fan of his writing anyhow - he wrote the screenplay to one of my favorite books of all time - A Civil Action). Looking at it cynically it was just his Oscar piece.

I'm not in the camp of needing to be "entertained" at the movie - being educated is equally important for me but List was just too much.

I also hated the end scene - but it was very Spielbergian to force the emotion. The detachment throughout the rest of the movie was exactly the way it should have gone for the entire movie. He did the same to Always and that ghastly Amistad nonsense.

I'm glad it appears to failed to beat At World's End's Memorial Day weekend record.

Maybe I'm just not into these summer tentpoles anymore.

If I was honest there are hardly any other movies that I want to see this summer - the slate feels very weak to me. WALL-E and possibly The Dark Knight will be the only other two I might consider seeing at the flicks. Maybe The Love Guru too as I'm a huge fan and the trailer looked hysterical.

To be honest I've really switch out from movies to TV - I'd much rather see an episode of Lost than any movie these days. It just seems that some of the smartest writing is in TV.

I honestly thought nothing could outdo the appalling Spiderman 3 but here it is.

If neither Lucas or Spielberg work on another film I would be happy and I remember the days when I was interested about their involvement.

We had a discussion at the end while the credits were rolling and it said it was based on story and characters by george Lucas, that maybe while he was checking his story notes his Indy notebook and his Star Wars notebook got mixed up. Then along came Stephen Spielburg and he accidentally brought his Close Encounters of the Third Kind notebook.
I think my friend said it best when she said "I think Indy just jumped the shark".
It just didn't have the same Indy feel to it.
I still loved the music and Harrison Ford though =)
And I thought the kids name was Mudd too.

I'm a little deaf and thought the kid said his name was "Mike"... Couldn't understand why Indy asked him "What kind of name is that?" Makes sense now. *LOL*

Thought both Mac and the Russian broad should have died much more horrible deaths.

The chase/sword-fighting scene reminded me of Pirates 2 - just had the same fun feel about it - couldn't stop smiling while watching... it was pretty cool. (is LeBouf REALLY that flexible... have to admit to admiring THAT view... ;-)

Knew from the moment they showed the guys' profiles at the diner that LeBouf was his son - he's got Ford's nose for real.

Didn't recognize John Hurt until they got into the vehicles - even though I saw his name in the opening credits. Should have had an Alien come out of his gut at the end. Heh. ;-)

Mr. Alice thought the waterfall survivals were a bit much - too far-fetched. But we both liked Karen Allen's decision/driving the amphibious car over the cliff.

I don't analyze Indy movies...Just remember they're meant to feel like the old serial short films from LONG ago and go with it.

Bottomline, we had fun. We'll purchase the DVD to catch more of the dialogue we missed (was some of the movie kinda "quiet" for anyone else?) and figure some of the confusing parts will then make a little more sense.

Oh... I thought for sure they were gonna pass the hat/legacy when Jr. picked it up in church. Guess the filmmakers didn't want to commit to THAT yet. :)
