Of course there are. But for this particular project, which is all about how the parks looked in the PAST and not the present, someone with direct experience to that past would be a better leader for the project.

<<It is time for Tony, Fitz, Rhode and others to let go of the reins. They've held them for a long time.>>

Geez, we're talking about ONE PROJECT. We are not discussing the overall leadership of Glendale. Seriously, what is the big deal here?

You sound very bitter, Manfried. You sound like the twentysomethings and thirtysomethings I read online, whining about how anyone over 50 should just retire now and let the younger generation have their jobs, as if the over 50 crowd is wasting space and oxygen.

Yeah. Anyone over 50 is a worthless piece of scum. We're all old fogeys who can't contribute anything of value to society.

    Screw. You.

My wife's been saying that about me for years.

I seem to recall that you once worked for WDI Florida, correct? And that said employment was terminated involuntarily (i.e., not at the time of your liking)? Sounds like sour grapes to me.

Its time for a little less of the same place and same thing.

But I'm pretty sure that Disney isn't going to put out something that isn't high quality and professional.

Do you think these fan products all are?

<<I mean, I'm fine going on youtube sometimes and squinting at the screen, trying to see Mr. Toad, but I'm not about to pay money for that same experience from Disney.

This is sounding like D23... Lots of blather and fluff... and then in the end, a very boring product. >>

I think you're jumping to conclusions when no one, myself included, know just how they intend to do this.

But Disney has been great at living off its past, so I'd expect them to do big things here.

New blood is a good thing, but really hasn't Disney been using it for the past decade plus now?

Haven't Tony Baxter and, to a lesser extent, Tom Fitzgerald and Joe Rohde been placed in largely figurehead positions?

One might argue quite effectively that the problem isn't the old guard doing too much of the same thing, but of younger less talented guard learning on the job at guests' expense.

You've got to be kidding me...LOL. The parks aren't either of those things any more, so why should this be?

I'm not jumping to any conclusions, but honestly it sounds a LOT like the blather that D23 puts out. And that puts me to sleep. And no, I don't consider that to high quality, or professional.

Yes. Tony hasn't been working on any active projects for quite a while. Joe has been relegated to clean up duty on DVC Hawaii Five-O. And Tom is theoretically in charge of WDI in Anaheim. Which basically means clean up duty on DCA Phase I and the DLH refurbishment.

These guys are no longer in any leadership role inside Glendale. So spare us the "new blood" whine.

Absolutely. Spirit nailed the problem. Look no further than Journey Through Lack of Imagination Parts I and II as well as Mission: Spaced Out. The "new blood" is fairly anemic.

So what exactly is Next Gen?

I always assumed it was the project to collect data about all kind of customer behaviour by keeping a tab on who does what at what point in time and then to analyze that data to streamline their product? And the side effect might be that the characters will know my name when I meet them (scary thought!!). How will those virtual trips back into the parks' history fit into that? And just putting out some nice DVDs does not seem very next gen to me.
