And I'm able to discuss issues with them without it turning into constant namecalling, and without questions about honesty and motivations.

I'd like to do that here, but everytime I extend that olive branch, it's rejected.

As long as certain posters are allowed to get away with continually insulting other posters or opinions with whom they disagree, then they will continue it.

    And why not? They won.

Well, there you go, Basically it was never a serious request that moderates or conservatives share their opinion of you. If it's a negative one, like InlandEmperor's, then they are dismissed as really being a liberal...pretty pathetic if you ask me.

I've actually learned a lot from these back and forths. I will say this though, a few people (not you X) need to ease up on the personal attacks and offer something more than that. I've seen you back some of them into a corner on things, and when they have no defense they then start the personal attacks.

I remember a long time ago something about "Obama has never lied" and then you said something about Public Campaign Funding or something like that, which he clearly lied about, then the personal attacks on you began. Man, please, offer the opposing view. Don't give up. The Right needs you!

And Doug, don't listen to THIS!!! I mean this could sometimes be Mr. X's job description here at LP, and he's saying it describes you? Please.

X, come on with the personal attacks.

    let's discuss something substantive.

How about this. Hillary would be a far better president than Obama. And Palin would be better than both of them? I honestly believe that.

Now that's one big juicy softball there.

Then I'd bet dollars to donuts that you don't talk to them in the dismissive, condescending way you talk to people here.

You know, umpteen posts later and I still don't see you saying "Maybe I could be a little to blame for the tone around here." It's everybody else's fault. Can you not see that?

Everyone else pretty much has owned up to times they've crossed the line, or contributed to name calling, or whatever.

But with you, it's always everyone else's fault. The liberals made you do it.

I don't see any olive branch at all. I see you waving a stick around trying to swat at people, hoping others will come in and say you've been horribly wronged.

No one has. That would make most people re-examine themselves a bit. But you choose to write it off as liberals have run off all the conservatives by being mean to them.

Again, and I mean this as an olive branch, consider that you, yourself, might have a posting style that contributes to the fighting.

If you truly are interested in discussions with all backgrounds, ideologies, etc., then for pity's sake, own up to your OWN part in causing battles here.

I know you don't believe it, but I'm actually a pretty moderate guy on most things. I will listen to reason. You and i have had good back and forths in the past. Lately, though, you resort to things like "it's not my fault if you can't come up with workable definitions" when I specifically tried to follow your logic on a subject. That's dismissive when I was trying to have a discussion with you.

It's no secret that we've had a HUGE amount of disagreements over the years, all of which have been regarding gay issues. I don't regret one word of anything I've said to you, but I do regret that it has colored other interactions to the extent I feel I can't really have a discussion with you on anything, no matter how innocuous the subject may be. (It's a shame because I bet we could have some enjoyable discussions on DC Comics.)

That said, there is one thing I've frequently seen in your posts: a strong desire to debate on issues with all emotion aside. That may be easy for you, but when it comes to some issues it is hard -- if not impossible -- to do that. What you say has a strong impact on several people here, and you should not be surprised if we vociferously defend ourselves. We have tried over and over again to show you a human face on these issues, but you have consistently refused to see it.

I often personally feel attacked and threatened by you, and I have responded as such because the time for calm, reasoned debate is long past, not just with you but with a lot of people on your side of the aisle.

Still, it's not for me or anyone else to say whether you should stay or go. But what I will say is that you honestly should take a close look at yourself in light of what has been said in response to your question. I've been taken to task in the past for things I've said and have had to admit I was wrong. Maybe -- just maybe -- you will see that there are some very valid things that have been said to/about you?
