Actually you have that quite wrong. I love apple products. Always have. Definately dont love the price of them because I cant afford them, but I would prefer to have an apple. Also the reason I call iTunes blocky is because of a few reasons. 1. it took till I-Tunes 5 for them to support TDK burners. 2. There is no support for overburn, cd-text or any of the advanced burning features to make a good cd. 3. Making playlists and even findind music is difficult when the artists are listed by album artist. 4. When you go to look for an actual cd, its files may be in 10 different folders on your computer so converting them to mp3 or another format becomes difficult and a mousehunt.

Mainly its their organizational set-up on itunes that bugs the heck out of me. Also the incompatability to play thier file format on other apps. So I buy on i-tunes than instantly convert them to mp3 and delete their mp4 counterpart.

Actually that is not what I suggested. I suggested using winamp only to unload and load the i-pod. Also, i-tunes still does not have wide support for cd-burners. As suggested above it took till version 5, their most recent windows version to support TDK, one of the most popular PC burners.

I have a 40GB 10,000 song library that I stream through our house using iTunes as our primary interface and have not had any of the problems that you described.

I tried to use one when living in L.A. -- it was horrible. Static and overall lousy reception.

I use the cassette deck adapter and it sounds great.

When I get my I-Pod my head unit can control an adapter that acts like a cd changer. It will also charger the I-Pod battery and I can control the I-pod through the head unit or remote and not have to search and feel on the i-pod itself. The limitation is that it acts like a 6 disc changer so it limits it to 5 seperate playlists and 1 "all" playlist.

There are quite a few aftermarket head units that have controls for I-pods. I use clarion exclusively for headunits in my cars so thats all I know about. But I know that pioneer and alpine both have something similar.

These adapters allow it to play through your stereo system and not be fm modulated so that you get a clean sound and not a downgraded quality.

This is the type we have, I can look up the brand. We use it in our area and also driving all the way to Tucson AZ, when we only had to change channels a couple times in the 400-mile trip. I think there was an area around Quartzite or somewhere it didn't work, but overall, I found it amazing and a lot easier than carrying a hundred CDs :p

Did I want a mini or a full size? If I got the mini, what color? Then, the nano came out and it was everything I wanted - flash based so I can take it to the gym and never have to worry about it and with a color screen and large enough that I wouldn't have to load and unload music all the time. I have only 2 gripes with my overall experience. First, I wish there was a simpler way to shuffle and unshuffle music on the iPod itself. Second, iTunes organizational structure just bugs me. I love the way Media Player sorted files but iTunes just kind of throws them all in together.

There's the "Shuffle Songs" option off the top menu, that will shuffle everything and start playing. Or the "Settings" option off the top menu, to shuffle songs or albums before selecting a playlist. I don't find either option to be rather simple. Only the iPod Shuffle has the quickest way to turn shuffle on and off, with the switch on the back. But for something as "full featured" as nano, that makes little sense.

That's what Playlists & Smart Playlists are for. And I manually load my playlists into my iPod, instead of update it automatically. It takes a bit more time upfront, when adding music to the Library, but it pays off down the road.

And FWIW... if you tend to be like Adrian Monk, and fingerprints annoy the heck out of you... forget the black nano and go with the white one. LOL!

The whole reason I got my iPod was to listen to it in the car, but when I got a new car that had a 6-disc changer with MP3 capabilities, I really haven't had a use for it in the car anymore... But I still use it on trips, at home on my stereo system, and at work... :)
