We worked our patooties off. An hour before school, an hour for class and two hours every day after school, plus countless Saturdays. We performed a new routine for every home football and basketball game - which meant creating/learning sometimes two per week and always at least one. We also put on a Spring Revue every year in the school theater and each created our own individual routines as a "final exam" every nine weeks. High kicks, flying splits, dance and military combinations - minds and bodies working hard together. Oh, and you'd better SMILE, missy!! Dance is a sport. (Don't ask me about NASCAR... ;-)

Then we had various honor societies - I was in Spanish Honor Society, French Honor Society, and National Honor Society. Nothing special about the foreign language ones, but the NHS membership netted us special sashes to wear with our gowns at graduation, and those of us who were officers in NHS got the REALLY groovy (much prettier than everyone else got) sashes. Oh, and in choir we did compete all year, too - I've got 7 or 8 medals on my choir letter jacket hanging in the closet. None on the Ac Oc or Ac Dec jackets, though - at those competitions, we'd get bronze, silver, or gold medals that could be worn around the neck. And Ursus - that would be cool as HECK to be an editorial cartoonist! (I recently met one who lives here in Austin! Yay political connections! hehe)

Dance can definitely involve the same level of athleticism and training required to compete in many physical sports, therefore, it qualifies.

You are most certainaly entitled to believe what ever you wish, a question was asked an opinion "answer" was given. I also don't consider auto racing a sport, but some of those participants and fans would want to beat me up for that assertion. LOL And, of course, we've got to find a place for tennis and cycling... Hence, the dangers of pigeonholing certain sports. ;-) 2oony, I would put horseshoes in the "Game" category along with bocci, shuffleboard, bowling, archery, trap/skeet and curling, etc. Dang, this could be as touchy as WE... In fairness I have broadened my thoughts and have come to my conclusion that indeed all of these do come under the heading of Sports ..Sports day at schools have zoodles of games and competitions, tossing horse shoes was one of those sports at my school, the Winter Olympics have ice dancing, fiqure skating, all winter olympic sports, summer games as well, Golf is a very skilled sport , i have golfed and it is a very tiring game if you are not fit, also if you play the amount of games like the professionals do, your mentally prepared mind also takes a toll, Tennis, hand ball...so everyone , where there is Sportsmanship, there is sport, after all thinking back many years, I watched a Sports program called The Wonderful World of Sports, all of these events were shown on this program, even horse jumping, which we love to watch....horse racing, car racing..so many , too many to list............................. infact let's all be Good Sports and have an ice cream in disney one day... So yes , Fiqure skating, Ice Dancing, is an Olympic Sporting event , along with so many others, that have their own unique descriptions of what they are . So therefore Wondering Alice , could you be a Good Sport along with any others and just slide over a touch. Have a Great Day.....: ) sorry for speling erors , one finger typist sentimental key board ha ha ha
