Mmmm good stuff!

I have sent Marmite to Miss Candice before and that got through OK.

It's much stronger then Marmite so you have to spread it very thin on toast/bread. I often have it on toasted cheese sandwiches..... or if your American that's grilled cheese to you guys! I think where tourists go wrong with Vegemite is they eat if off a spoon to sample it and say it's VILE but IMHO you shouldn't eat it that way, it needs bread or pastry of some sort.

I tried to change my name to "The Artist Formally Known as Catfish", but decided it was too long. Yes Deb, I agree - if you're trying Vegemite for the first time, it should not only be on bread but it should also be used sparingly! I myself used to hate the stuff growing up (I know, I know, I'm unAustralian!), but grew a liking to it when I was about 14 and now I can't get enough of the stuff.

You Yanks should keep in mind that Vegemite is not peanut butter, and you are not supposed to put half the jar on your sandwich. You will gross yourself out. If you can't see the bread/toast/whatever through the Vegemite, you have spread it too thick. Once you have determined your Vegemite comfort level, you can adjust your spread thickness to your liking. It goes especially well with butter or margarine. The stuff is addictive, so make sure you have a reliable pusher, er, I mean source handy (Cost Plus World Market, for instance). I found Marmite to be stronger, stickier, bitterer, and not nearly as good as Vegemite. Just my opinion, YMMV. Mind you then we had to go thru the long drawn out process of what bread we wanted and still when it arrived it had an olive on top and a cookie at the side! LOL. I took a pix of it, as it was so funny! I feel so sorry for you guys when you come to Aus as you are looking for all these choices in your bread and it's brown or white, salt & pepper and thats it! LOL It was the same with everywhere we went in LA, I have never had so much choice in my life, especially with milk ( cream ) and it sure slows down the ordering process and makes everything so much more complicated! lol
