STPH, could you please explain what you mean by "blanket statements"? I'm not understanding your comment.

Ecdc, FWIW, I immediately contacted Admin after I posted that. I regretted what I said immediately as it was very harsh and I was angry. I'm sorry.

Hey, no worries. Believe me, if STPH is the King of Typos, I'm the King of Regret. I'm the online reigning champion of posting something and then having to apologize later. And your post was tame compared to most, so thanks :)

And you're getting this definition from...?

It's not a definition I completely agree with. I guess I'm thinking of the legal definition of the word, rather than any social connotation. If a random person on the street makes a comment to me because of my gender, I don't see that as discrimination.

    > Okay cstephens, how about being told that you can not have Sunday's off to go to church (after 14 years of service)

That depends on what you do for a living and whether or not they can accommodate you. Without knowing the specifics, I can't really have an informed opinion about that.

    > being asked what religion you are at an interview

That's illegal, but it's not discrimination per se. It would be just as illegal if they asked if you had any children.

    > not being able to bring up God at work (my husband's job).

Depends on the context. If your husband is trying to witness at work, that would be inappropriate. Are people of other religions able to mention their god of choice, or is it only the Christian God that is not allowed to be mentioned? I recently heard that an ex-employee at my company would leave for the day and call out loudly that he was going to Bible study and wanted to know if anyone else wanted to come. That's inappropriate. Work is work.

    > NOW tell me that we haven't been discriminated against!

Just because they don't agree with you or even make inaccurate comments about you, that doesn't mean you're being discriminated against. Again, I still think it's a buzzword that people like to throw around.

If someone lumps me into a larger group of people who behave or believe in things I don't, I make it a point of having a discussion with them to try to get them to understand that lumping people into groups automatically doesn't work. I don't just sit there and scream discrimination.

I've backed up my statements and given examples as you have wanted which is common in a mature debate. I've been trying to have a mature discussion, but all you've done is give your opinion which has no fact basis. I don't even know why I'm upset. How about you prove to me why I should care about your opinions or anything you have to say?

I'm not playing devil's advocate. That's arguing a point you don't believe just for the sake of arguing. I'm asking questions because I didn't understand what you were saying, and I'm responding to your comments. I can't help that you don't like my answers.

    > I've been trying to have a mature discussion, but all you've done is give your opinion which has no fact basis.

So I'm not having a mature discussion because I've been giving my opinions? Umm, ok...

    > How about you prove to me why I should care about your opinions or anything you have to say?

You don't have to care about my opinions or anything you have to say. I really don't care if you do or not. You started a thread. I decided that on this rare occasion, I'd participate in a WE thread. If you can't deal with people disagreeing with you, I can't help that.

You haven't. I wasn't referring to "you" specifically, but instead I was responding to your comment in the initial post ...

    >> While Christians are constantly being told that we need to accept various ways of life, many people refuse to accept us. <<

This thread and STPs thread are running in tandem, and his thread is about the christian group that has been fighting in the courts to repeal legislation already been passed and enacted that provides for (some) equal benefits to gays and lesbians. Why would they do that? What could be their motivation?

The relevancy of the extremeism of this proudly christian group and your comments about how "many people can't accept us" deserved pointing out. And I merely said that you can "expect some pushback" - not exactly fightin' words.

So too, the imperious tone of your header "Is This You?" doesn't sit well when it's aimed at you. So it's fine when you point fingers, but when they're pointed back at you, suddenly it's "discrimination'.

    >> NOW tell me that we haven't been discriminated against! <<

You haven't been discriminated against. Going to church on sunday is not some guaranteed right under the law - nor should it be. As for "not being able to bring up god at work", this is an easy line to cross. Christians that loudly and profoundly testify their faith to others is nothing new - it's been going on forever. As a result, people who are less fervent about their religion are justifiably leery of getting into discussions with avid christians about their faith. Best to keep a lid on it at work. That's not discrimination either.

Your faith is just that - yours. It's not a badge - don't flash it.

My response to this post (#59) comes before I've read the twentysome posts that come after it - I was outta town this weekend. I may have more to say in a minute.

You want to feel persecuted? Go right ahead. I'm not sure if it's 'debate' that you want, or sympathy for your underdog status. But it's just not there. Whatever burden you carry because of your religion is self-imposed. Several people have responded with similar viewpoints but you outright reject and say I AM TOO discriminated againt.

    Have it your way.

There is NO doubt that Christains and overweight people are made the butt of many jokes and nobody says anything about it.

But make a joke against a homosexual, a Muslim, a Mexican, a African Ameican... all hell breaks loose.

This is simply a fact and I think was the point jazzcat was trying to make in his original post.

My theory is that the left are in a culture war against traditional America.

They want " progessive " changes for America like gay marriage, legalized drugs and prostitution. They want socialism and they want nobody making any judgements about their lifestyle, even if that means taking their kids to the gay bath house on Sunday.

What stands in their way... or who stands in their way of getting this version of America?

    Christians.

So they attack and put a cross in urine or even worse.

<<Can you come up with any examples where Christians are being prevented from practicing their faith? Are mere differences of opinion now considered attacks? >>

The ACLU will sue you if you try and practice your religion in the " wrong place ". But you already know this.

Does the liberal, socialist based, ACLU ever sue Muslims??

As far as overwieght people go... America is a place that worships the pretty person. If you hot, you get anything you want, you get more jobs, you get to avaoid jail if you have sex with your sudents, you get more respect.

If your " fat " your going never get this treatment from strangers on the same level.....unless your Tony Soprano.
