And besides that, major league sports are in trouble. Lots of empty seats at the venues of the non top clubs. The Arena Football League cancelled its 2009 season. Major League Soccer has been bumping up its prices (a major mistake in my estimation) and might pay the price with reduced attandance.

I have seen lots of empty seats in NHL games on TV. And baseball, well, if you aren't the Cubs/Yankees/Dodgers/RedSox you will be either discounting your tickets or playing in front of small crowds.

I just can't support this comparison with "event pricing", which has been over-the-top expensive since time immemorial (in my long life, anyway, it has always been this way...back when I was a youth my Dad was always shocked at the price of a "Fenway Frank" and a beer, but he bought em anyway with a shrug).

The big difference imho, is that if you don't want to pay through the nose, you don't have to. You can dine before the game, or go out after. In any case, you're only inconvenienced for a couple of hours.

At an amusement park or any other "all day" place, it's pretty unreasonable to expect people to exit the premises for a snack or a meal, and given the fact that Disney has always been "sort of" reasonable, this is troubling.

For many of us the commute to the ballpark is 90 + minutes each way - add 3-4 hours for actual arrival to end of game - so we're talking 5 1/2- 6 hour commitment -- that is as long as many people spend at one time before heading back to hotel also - ( or out to the Wendy's I keep hearing about )

so sorry, I think the comparison is very valid.

And no it wasn't always that way here say at Wrigley - it used to be very reasonable also

yes I realize the escalation of prices is troubling - welcome to my world every day - sorry you all had to join

Okay. Sorry you feel that way, but no, I don't think the comparison is valid at all.

Because, as I wrote (maybe you didn't read it), it's a lot different when you talk about "event pricing".

    It just is.

Maybe you can talk about a long commute, or other kinds of yada yada, but it doesn't change the fact that a couple of hours in some stadium generally equals stupid pricing.

What is it that we are not getting through to each other here? There IS a difference, and it's mostly because we're talking the difference between a park (or in the WDW case, practically a city) vs. a stadium (exits easily available at any time).

I feel like we're talking past each other here, and that's fine. But anyway, as I understand it event pricing is what it is. It's different from a park or other place where one might spend an entire day. You might argue semantics, but it's still ridiculous to compare one to the other imho.

1/ we have the most politically corrupt city ( and state) in the country - which becomes clearer every day as having Obama in the White House I believe has shone the light on people like Gov Rod ( our previous gov in prison) - Senator ( I really didn't lie completely) Burris -
2/ It's expensive as hell to live here -- 10.5% sales tax -- 3.5% state income tax ( headed to a min of 6% shortly)- some of the highest gasoline prices in the country - ditto for electric and gas.. out of sight property taxes ( $15000 + on a $400K house) -
    3. And oh yeah - life as a Cubs fan is sort of like Hell on earth...

here's another difference - one can leave WDW and re enter- leave Wrigley and there is no re entry - so the $7 hot dog is your only option

While their prices may not be out of line in Chicago they are out of line for the region in which WDW is located. It is like housing prices in California compared to Charlotte. That's why I say they need to have options for people from all areas.

I don't know what Wrigley's is like, bu there are plenty eateries withing walking distance of Coors field in Denver. Or during the drive down there are tons of places where we can stop to eat before the game, which is what we usually do. For the price of a hot dog, a couple of cokes and pretzel I can get a real meal. And Coors lets you bring in snacks. We usually buy a big bag of caramel or kettle corn at Sams' Club and take it with us. You do have to buy the overpriced coke however.

Ultimately because people are stupid enough to pay for it whether in advance with the DDP so they ignorantly think they're getting a 'bargain' or simply when they get there.

There's no hot dog in the world with what Disney charges. In a time of such economic difficulties (DEPRESSION) you'd think a wiser move might be to sell hot dogs for something rational like $2-3 a pop.
