I consider mid century anything in the middle third (i.e. 1934-1967), and the use of gay to mean homosexual did in fact exist that early in just a couple of places in the country - not surprisingly, New York and LA. And even more specifically, Hollywood and Harlem. It may surprise some, but Harlem was actually a more gay-friendly place in the 20's and 30's even than the village. A good number of the figures of the Harlem Renaissance (Langston Hughes, Ma Rainey, Billy Strayhorn) were gay. This book even posits that "gay" as a slang for homosexual began in Harlem, and that the equivalent slang "friend of Dorothy" - often said to mean "friend of Judy Garland" or "friend of Dorothy Parker" actually referred to a now-forgotten woman in Harlem named Dorothy who had a number of gay friends.

Great segway into the villains portion of the show.. The water really starts to pick up at this point - I was standing on the boardwalk and there's was a lot of water fallout. #114 - Yes, MFW is used during some parts of the show. Works really well and isn't distracting at all. #115 - No, the Alice scene isn't in the show.. but they kept some surprises for the finale scene! Hint, he's purple
