While TDS Fantasmic will be according to some a brand new show, I'm sure some elements from the existing two shows will be included, and I will be interested in how on some nights the park will include the Mickey as the Sorcerer's Apprentice scene. Will it not hurt the finale if its just taken out. The team behind this project have there work cut out trying to offer a show that can be offered in all weather conditions, but I'm buzzing at what impact this new version could have on updates to Disneyland in the years to come, although WDW being the mess that it is, will likely opt to skip out on any possible upgrades.

Even more baffling is the fact that they actually make an announcement after the fact when a show is presented in an "alternate" way. Is that some effort to stave off guest complaints or something? Seems to me they should just do "the show" without explaining how "that show" was somehow different due to weather. I'm guessing the Tokyo crazy fan community has something to do with this...doesn't seem very Disney to me!

However when you need to fill a giant lagoon what can you do that is entirely weatherproof? No fireworks, no kites, no elevated positions etc. It is VERY difficult. Fantasmic! will have an alternate version for the weather that is a nifty way to compensate for the wind.
Originally Posted By Mr X ***It is ALWAYS the prime consideration.*** That hasn't been my experience. Obviously you're involved for the most part with bigger shows than I was...but I can remember discussing issues of weather with the Rhythms of the World producers, and they were flabbergasted to learn that when it rains, a stage might become slippery. Just sayin.

It's a great show, so people would camp out for a long time (though probably not as long as they do in TDR for the shows), only to have it cancelled because the wind was too strong for the low level pyro around the hub. From my understanding, the stuff launched from behind the parks was rarely the issue, yet they had to completley cancel the show because they couldn't do the in-park effects. If they had created an alternate show that only used the stuff launched from near Toontown, they could still give their guests a fireworks show on all but the windiest nights, and they wouldn't have nearly as many complaints about it. The pyro folks wouldn't have to disarm all the fireworks if they cancelled the show, since most of them (everything that isn't inside the park itself) would still get used, but just to different music, and possibly in a different order. Yah, it wouldn't be as good as Remember, but a Fantasy in the Sky-style show would be far better than nothing. I would assume that the winds in DL are nothing compared to those in TDR, but there were 2-3 week periods, in the fall with the Santa Ana Winds, where the show was cancelled all but one or two nights, at which point it just seemed silly to even pretend like that was the best they could and they were caught totally unprepared. The alternate versions may not be as good as the originals, but they are definately better than nothing, especially if people are camping out to see the shows.
