What makes this really distressing is that families have already been addressing this themselves for years. Of course, it does lead to problems when members go out into the real world and have to deal with the real rules. I was shocked, SHOCKED back in college when visiting friends who allowed everyone to consult the dictionary BEFORE placing a word on the board. Their attitude was that it encouraged the kids to learn new words. My problem: the "kids" were now in college, and needed to play by the real rules. And that is where (CRANKY RANT ALERT) this is all leading. A society in which "rules" are just petty annoyances that get in the way of our fun. Why wait to make a right hand turn when the light is red? Change that law. Why sit at a red light when there's no traffic coming from the other direction? Change that law, too. And where does it all lead? A society where convenience trumps the rule of law. (Rant off.) Oh, one last question... Under the new rules (only in the UK, FOR NOW), would it be legal to play LADYGAGA? Or does there have to be a space between LADY (a legal word!) and GAGA (a legal word!)?
